500ml bottle. Pours black with a large head. Aroma is lime, blackcurrant and pine. Subtle. Taste has pine throughout, some blackcurrant. Pine and roast lingers on the finish. Tasty indeed.

Tap at Pelt Trader. Pours a very murky dark brown with a medium creamy beige head that doesnít even dissipate. Nose shows loads of piney hops and tropical fruits with heavy grapefruit. Some would say itís over the top hoppy but I enjoy it. Some heavy liquorice in the taste with grassy hops and a very smokey bacon driven note. Some orange comes through. The smoked malts are a little overwhelming for my liking. Solid stuff

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
UPDATED: MAY 8, 2013 Toffee orange and Terryís chocolate orange up front on this impenetrable dark ruby-brown beer. Good sized fluffy beige head forms. Gentle carbonation and a world of flavour. Up front we get a hint of freshly ground coffee, followed swiftly by pine resin and sweet toffee malt. Then the citrus comes along to freshen the palate and finishes with a hint of earthy malt. Some chocolate, lots of hop bitterness. Its particularly drinkable for its ABV and bests the original.
Iím glad I have 500ml as 330ml wouldnít be enough. Lovely. This is up there with Axe-edge and SPA as my top Buxton brews.

Unable to find fault, spot on tropical aroma, nary a hint of black malt, just full on fruit punch, no sign of the booze either, perfect carbonation and palate, fab 5/5

Bottle, 10C was a little too cold. Black with a modest but stable beige head. Aroma of grapefruit, chocolate, , red berries, gentle pine - enveloping rather than punchy. Creamy, low carbonation. Taste has sweet dark sugars and chocolate, citrus (grapefruit, leafy lemon) and berries. Bitterness is assertive then slowly fades to a point. Really good.

Bottled. Pours dark brown with an orange glow and a medium sized tan head that leaves a good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, licorice, caramel, grapefruit, citrus zest and piney notes. Slightly sweet flavor that ends up dry and nice bitter. Medium bodied, oily texture and soft CO2. An excellent black IPA. ★★★★

[cask at the Stockbridge Tap, Edinburgh] Where to start with this one? Black as night, large, tight white head. Properly hoppy on the nose, tropical fruit and citrus, with a smooth, dark roast flavour. Rich fruit, with some alcohol, and then bitter coffee on the end Ė itís as good a beer as Iíve had for a long time. I mean that Ė itís an absolute stunner. All the flavours are balanced beautifully, and the alcohol is pitched just right. One of the best British black IPAís Iíve ever had Ė and on cask, too. Joyous
