Aroma is a pound of smoked gammon that’s been aged in a pint of TCP. Taste isn’t as over the top, thick smoke and peat with mild plaster and TCP notes. Flat but full in the mouth.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured a dark brown colour with a little light at the edges. There is a thin tan head with some broken lace. The aroma is mildly smoky with some malt. The flavour is medium bitter, with liqourice, roasted malt and chocolate. The palate is rather smooth and the bitterness lingers for a while in the finish.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 pentaz (470) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - APR 22, 2013
Bottle. Pours clear dark brown with spotted lacing and a dissipating small tan creamy head. Aroma is peaty smoke, ripe dark fruit, pine, red apple, toffee, roasted malt, barnyard, iodine, rye’ish spice, leather and unripe banana. Taste is medium sweet and bitter. Body is medium+, texture is soft/creamy, carbonation is near flat. Finishes initially sweet malty with smoke but ends up being dry with the hops coming through in the far finish. Great balance, body and texture. The smoke never overpowers the other aromas. Lovely stuff.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 FaithHealer1 (330) - SCOTLAND - APR 1, 2013
Bottle from Beer Ritz, tasted with Dan. Pours a pitch black, very little head. Aroma is peaty smoke, roasted malts, milky vanilla and a little bit of dark fruits. Taste is big smoke up front, with a nicely subtle peaty, whiskyish note. Roasted malts, mocha coffee and some dark fruitiness are there too. Medium body, average length finish. Not bad, but expected a bit more if Im honest.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 dantheman278 (1320) - SCOTLAND - APR 1, 2013
Bottle at home, thanks James! Dark brown pour, thin off-white head. Big salty, meaty, slightly sweaty smoke and roast on the nose, just a hint of soft roast barley too. Slightly sweet mocha/cocoa front, quickly matched with intense, slightly medicinal peat flavours. Soft creamy body, lightly bittersweet finish. Really well balanced.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines: dark brown pour with a tan head, big peaty medicinal taste which come through in the taste, like drinking a laphroaig which isn’t a bad thing.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Beersiveknown (1622) - NORTHERN IRELAND - MAR 13, 2013
Bottle at home from drinkstore.
Intriguing aroma of roast lamb and smoked ham with slightly sweaty washed find cheese. Dark brown with ambertan head and fine carbonation, light with medium body. Plenty of bitter roast barley and some cocoa combat the gentle peaty caress and sticky sweet meaty rye. A well balanced brew that has probably mellowed with age.
