COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An Imperial, Smoked Rye Porter evolved from the recipe book of JK; our Head Brewer. Mashed with malt smoked over a scottish peat burning fire, this beer has a lovely smokey, phenolic and slightly spicy character. Reminiscent of bonfires and Islay whisky.
Almost all gone, get it while you can and drink it whilst the smokey character is still prominent.

Bottle BB 2015. Black with a thin off-white head. Smell lives up to the name - fabric plasters and smoke. Body is medium to light with hardly any carbonation. Taste is toned down smoke. It’s a little insipid to start but the smoke does endure so that it’s not totally watery. No real bitterness, not overly sweet. A little metallic. Decently made and balanced, but just a bit boring.

Cask at Borefts BF 2012. A dark amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of caramel and light notes of smoke. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and light notes of smoke, leading to a dry smokey finish. Lacks character.

Other Buxton beers I have tried have been solid so this was almost a no brainer. Unfortunately it is not quite as much of a home run. It has smoky aspects but somewhere along the way loses the trail. Even so I will give them the benefit of the doubt.

Aroma / Appearance - Creamy brown liquid builds with a reddish accent. Sandy offwhite head rests like chunks of foam. It feels a little on the thin side. The smell of ash trays outside a busy hospital give this an almost cigarette feel. Day old band aids are not appealing. Salvaging it is the scent of ham curing in an old barn.

Flavor / Palate - Smoky bacon, almonds, and cool tea mix well. it is not super complex but works well. The coffee and rye aspects emerge a bit later. It is fairly well rounded though it does not have that "imperial" feel. Overall though this is worth trying just to get away from the "all English beers are boring milds" routine.

33cl, as Smokey and the Band-Aid, new exclusive English brew Anno 2012, from The Bottle Shop Canterbury, complex smoked Porter, malty/sweet and slightly smoked/roasted, not too heavy, balanced, hazy, small head, nice brew, yet expensive!
