Draft at church key in DC. Near black with a thin and bubbly head. Really sour and barnyard aromas. Tastes a bit like licking a horse saddle followed by a deep chocolate porter. Weird.

330ml bottle picked up at Mikkeller & Friends. Shared at the great Absalon Sunday tasting. Solid tan-coloured head. Good lacing to the glass. Jet coloured body, more or less. Coffee and chocolate nose. Flavoured with dark, mid-sweet malts and offset by a little tartness. Dry, malt-fruity bitterness to the ending. Creamy in the mouth. Pleasant and interesting brew (hotel room, Copenhagen 26.05.2013).

Bottle at home from Buxton brewery
Pours dark ruby tinged brown with frothy dark brown head. Unmistakable tart manure of Brett on the nose masks the hops I know are there, on swirling comes rich chocolate fondant and Curacao peel. Still very full bodied with medium carbonation, slight tartness up front then an exposition in malts from sweet molasses through burnt toast and bitter barley to rich roast coffee with a constant undercurrent of Brett dry woodiness and leaflitter. Increasing hop bitterness builds, mint hot chocolate, flintiness. Its a different beast to the original, but the malt hallmarks are certainly there. Its complex and makes me hanker for the days when beers like this were de riguer rather than one off specials. Fruity melon and dry barley in the lengthy finish. Not difficult to drink despite the strength and difficult to fault.
