A black beer with a weak and brown head that is one of the darkest head that I have seen. The nose is strongly roasted with coffee, luckily sweetness of dark fruits balancing the roastiness, some liquirice and red berries. Intensive aroma. Taste is almost burned with coffee, almost too burned, some sweetness and dark fruits, herbal hops. Medium+ bodied, low carbonation, quite smooth. The strongly roasted and straightforward beer.

Pours a black colour with a minimal beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, peppery spiciness and some soy sauce. Flavour is very roasty and burnt with malts, bitter chocolate, strong bitterness, ash and espresso. Medium bodied, oily mouthfeel and a mouthdrying, bitter, ash finish. Very straightforward in it’s roastiness.

Bottle picked up from ’Jacks’, Westholme Stores, Goring-on-Thames, Oxon 20th November 2013 consumed at home Thursday 28th November 2013 Black as deep space, really, really black with a tan head. Roasty, malty with some liquorice, very thick in mouth, tarry, like licking the tar off of a melting asphalt road. It’s oily, thick in the mouth and roasty & bitter. There is a citrussy edge, its good. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Beer Hive, Edinburgh
Pich black, thin dirty tan bubbly rim round glass
Aroma - rich deep dark malts, deep roast, some soy, dab of burnt wood, bit tarry, quite complex
Taste - Big roasted malts, burnt wood, bitter dark chocolate, rich dark malts, some bitter hops in there, tar, some coffee grounds, complex
Palate - Soft carb, medium to full body, bitter roast but some dark sweet malts keep it in check, quite bitter overall, rich smooth roast. Finish as main flavour, long lingering considerably bitter roast with dark tarry malts, some more bitter hops coming thorough here but too over bitter in the finish
Overall - Drinks with a complexity found in imperial stouts around 9-10%. Good stuff.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours black as oil and looks as viscous. No head at all really. Some large, mocha-colored bubbles on the sides. In the beginning the aroma is a lot of cocoa and by lot I mean a lot. It overpowers everything else. Maybe some roast, a tad of liquorice. But really, not much else besides the cocoa. Later on the liquorice and roast get stronger. After the aroma the taste is a surprise. A lot of roast and coffee, some liquorice, rather dry. A bit of hops in the finish: Grapefruit, citrus, a tad of wood. No cocoa or chocolate in sight. No carbonation at all really, maybe a little bit. Should have more definitely. Feels oily.
