4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Deep black colour, brown head. Nose is very surprising with cherry, coffee, licorice and I felt hints of roasted pistachios... Taste very frontal, quite bitter, not too strong on the alcohol content. A very beautiful stout. Buxton is really one of my favourite breweries in the UK...

33cl bottle. Pours absolutely black with a thick, quickly disappearing light brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, liquor. Taste is similar with lots of roastiness and chocolate along some peat. Bitter coffee prominent in the finish with roasted notes again. Creamy mouthfeel, full body, light carbonation. Excellent.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2014. This is a deep brown looking one with a small sidesticking and islandy brown head. Cocoa dark nose here. Some oboy or nesquick powder with hints of both vanilla and chocolate. Not a super extreme hit-you-in-the-face nose but it’s most definitely present and nice. Some grains also. It has a way to alcohol-raw taste for my taste buds, and it still feels a bit thin in the mouth. Dry roasted malts, some more dry cocoa powder. No trace of the faint oboy sweetness in the aroma. Ends really mouthdrying this. Decent stuff. 02.05.2014

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
33cl bottle from Mother Kelly’s, London. It pours a deep dark brown color with a small mocha head. Aroma is intensely roasty, with notes of dark chocolate, licorice, espresso, wood. As it warms up, a boiled vegetable notes pervades the aroma. Taste is rich bold and quite sweet with notes of dark chocolate, coffe beans, burnt sugar, roasted wood and hits of black berries. Finishes mild tart and mild bitter with notes of roasted grains an black currants. Medium to full body with good carbonation. Overall, a great perusal stout considering the ABV. It looses a point on that strange vegetable note in the aroma though.
