Opaque black - brown beer, small tan head. Palate is smooth with modest carbonation. Tangy dark malt with a little dry dark chocolate. Mild roast malt bitterness. Finishes dry. Tasty but not standing out from the crowd.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured a deep mahogany with a thin tan head. The aroma is big roasted malt with some dry coffee and dark chocolate. The flavour is strong bitter with with a rich oily alcoholic bitter palate. Full bodied with flat carbonation and a long bitter finish with a rich oily mouthfeel.

Bring out the Buxton. Christmas present off the missus. Filthy pitch with a loose tan head that sticks around. I’m talking entirely about the beer here. Soap and blueberry-forward nose with saline, soft lactic, prune, iodine, peaty malt and roasted pepper suggestions. Huge bodied, imperial soft, bittersweet and mellow with cocoa, tobacco and pepper notes. The cheeky hops suggested by the nose don’t really emerge. Dry and chalky like high cocoa chocolate. Bit one-dimensional and Baltic for me. But good.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured flat which lowered my expectations. I needn’t have worried. This was delicious - crisp roastiness, with a smooth bodied warming capacity. Went down einen treat. I trust Buxton.

Bottle@home celebration og bolton's new job ;). Black no head. Strong coffee roasted malty notes. No carbonation! Heavy smooth creamy texture. Need more and lace for my taste.
