Bottle. Brown with a cream foam. Aromas are toffee and weetabix with woody aftershave and hints of lemon. Lightly nutty and earthy with trace pine and peppery spices. Raisins with some chocolate. Flavours are sweet malts with weetabix and hints of toffee. Peppery with earthy, dry hops. Lemon and pine bitterness with lots of spices. Has some soapiness. A nice bitter.

Bottle at home. Murky brown pour, thin bubbly head dissipates to almost nothing at all. Doesn’t look good, if I’m honest. On the nose I get a very "English" hop flavour - musty spice, light cardboard, some rye spice perhaps? Just a touch of berry fruit maybe. Not really any carbonation to speak of. Vague sweet malts, some dull spice, light toffee, something dirty, lemony soapy finish. Tastes very thin, really quite dull and there’s a weird estery cardboard thing going on too. Either not right, or just bad, and neither of those sound much like Buxton. Very disappointed. Now where has my last Imperial Black gone...

Cask (gravity) - Norwich Beer Festival, 2012. A clear golden amber beer that poured with a small but lasting bubbly white head from the gravicask. Leafy, grassy aromas with some yeast, apple, tobacco & toasted malt. Apple, lemon, almost estery on the palate with a lingering though softish intensity grassy, lemon rind bitterness to finish. Light to medium body, fairly soft mouthfeel.

[cask, IMBC2012] Light amber pour with a thin white head. Grassy, straw-like aroma from the hops, together with some faintly biscuity malt. Quite floral at first, before the biscuity malt arrives on the flavour. Some orange zest in there as well. Leads into a dry finish. A pleasant golden ale [06102012]

Cask conditioned handpump Cask Pub & Kitchen Pimlico 11/10/12. A golden beer with a white bubbly head. Lovely sharp hoppiness throughout. Good pale malts add no sweetness. Spicy bitterness. Very tasty and well balanced. Hops work well. Never would have thought this had English hops were I drinking it blind. Splendid

Cask at Cask Pub and Kitchen, Pimlico, London. A golden coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Hoppy, malty aroma. Tastes hoppy, malty, fruity and bitter.Rather forgettable to be honest.
