Tsar is rich and powerful, a full bodied Imperial Stout. Malty chocolate, mocha and dark berry fruit-notes preside over a subtle hop profile, whilst a smooth velvety texture in the mouth gives way to a lingering bitter, dark chocolate finish

Pours dark espresso with a limited tan head that lasts and no lacing. Nose is roasted grain, espresso and maybe some fruit. Flavours of espresso, dark chocolate, burnt toast, dark fruit and some earthy bitterness. Taste is medium sweet, medium bitter. Full, creamy body with medium carbonation and a lasting bitterness in the finish.

Bottle. Black, brown head. Seawater salty nose, some charred wood, oak. Brown malty sweetness. Full bodied, but nicely drinkable. A bit dark though, heavy. Sweet roasty licorice. Very flavourful, but bit unbalanced. Too heavy hitting.

Very black pour with almost no head, but what there is is a deep toffee colour. The nose is full of licorice, dark chocolate, espresso and dark fruit. The licorice and coffee dominate the finish but there’s some lighter flavours on the entry, Full bodied and a little gritty with a smooth warmth and long finish. I can dig it.

330ml bottle. Very dark brown almost black color. Small size, bubbly brown head, stays. Sweet, hops, dark chocolate, woody, cocoa cream in aroma. Cocoa cream, mellow roast, spicy hops, milky chocolate in taste. Although it bites you first soon it mellows down. Long lasting milk chocolate in aftertaste. Roasty chocolatey body.

330ml bottle into a chalice. Pours a deep black with a few brownish highlights, with non-existant head. Mocha and dried fruit with a very subtle hoppiness on the nose, bitter tarry finish. Smooth on the palate.

Bottle at home from Redmonds. Pours oily sleek black. Dark tan head that reduces to nothing. Disappointing look. Aroma is quite floral. I get a distinct hop aroma. Nearly black IPA like. Cholcolate lactose, some coffee, leather, and malt on the nose. The flavour is caramel malts, coffee, chocolate, dark fruits. Bitter dry finish with an alcohal sting. Body is medium with a slick mouthfeel. A bit unusual.

12 bottle in a teku. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate and coffee, some caramel sweetness, hints of dark fruits, some light dough, and light bitterness. Flavor the same with a pretty good blend. Smoother texture. A solid beer.

Bottle. Dark body, medium tan head. Aroma has licorice and dark chocolate. Taste has the same and then some sweet dried fruit, coffee etc. Finish is mildly ashy. Pretty much a standard Imperial Stout - rich and smooth but well, aren’t they all rich and smooth? Good, but if you aim for greatness then it should have a clearly defined and memorable character that offers something unique.
