3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at home from Redmonds. Pours oily sleek black. Dark tan head that reduces to nothing. Disappointing look. Aroma is quite floral. I get a distinct hop aroma. Nearly black IPA like. Cholcolate lactose, some coffee, leather, and malt on the nose. The flavour is caramel malts, coffee, chocolate, dark fruits. Bitter dry finish with an alcohal sting. Body is medium with a slick mouthfeel. A bit unusual.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 bottle in a teku. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate and coffee, some caramel sweetness, hints of dark fruits, some light dough, and light bitterness. Flavor the same with a pretty good blend. Smoother texture. A solid beer.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Dark body, medium tan head. Aroma has licorice and dark chocolate. Taste has the same and then some sweet dried fruit, coffee etc. Finish is mildly ashy. Pretty much a standard Imperial Stout - rich and smooth but well, arenít they all rich and smooth? Good, but if you aim for greatness then it should have a clearly defined and memorable character that offers something unique.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUN 6, 2014 At $5.99 for a 330ml bottle this is very pricey.
The aroma offers hints of chocolate and coffee. It pours black with minimal head. Definitely has a strong bitter taste, which can be be off putting to some. As the description says, it is full bodied, with a slick texture, soft carbonation, and a bitter finish.
A nice strong beer, but here in Nova Scotia it is just too expensive.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from Tallinna Kaubamaja food department (Ä 4,65) in May 2014. Pours Coke black with dark brown head that lasts nicely, leaving a scattered lacing. Nose is a fantastic mixture of hoppy and malty: I sense a great deal of cocoa-laden dark chocolate, truffle and almost burnt coffee, but also pine / spuce, grapefruit / lemon, or something similarily more bitter than sweet. Taste is at first surprisingly bitter, proceeded with a sensation of strong burnt coffee (but not at all in a bad way) and chocolate (though I wouldnít say itís sweet). The bitter aspects make me wonder about the types of hops used. Itís got a very full body (it almost feels physically heavy on the tongue), low carbonation, and indeed a "smooth velvety texture", hinting a 9,5 ABV only in a slight alcoholic tingle in the finish, and after a while a sense of warmth in the throat. Mouthfeel is thick and resinous. Overall a wonderful beverage to sip in the company of quality literature, something historical maybe, taking place in 19th century Russia. Turgenevís "Fathers and Sons" for example.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
0,33L bottle, BB 08.04.2019. Pours black with brown head. The head stays. Aroma is coffee, dark chocolate, roast, and licorice. Taste is coffee, dark chocolate, some fruits, ash, and some sourness. Finish is long coffee, dark chocolate and dry bitter. Overall: very well made stout, but I prefer the ones that are a little bit sweeter.
