Tsar is rich and powerful, a full bodied Imperial Stout. Malty chocolate, mocha and dark berry fruit-notes preside over a subtle hop profile, whilst a smooth velvety texture in the mouth gives way to a lingering bitter, dark chocolate finish

Bottle @ home. The pour’s thick, oily black with a tight, creamy tan head. Attractive. The nose is strong sweet Hershey’s chocolate syrup, charred malts, espresso bean, booze-infused fudge and bitter dark chocolate. Big, expressive aromas. The taste is similarly outsized. Heavy notes of freshly ground espresso. Charred wood and gritty roasted malt flavors. Big, fat, thick chocolate milkshake. Dry, hoppy bitter finish. Ashy. The body’s thick and viscous. Luxurious mouthfeel. This beer wears the ABV well, though it certainly demands to be drunk at a leisurely pace. Overall, pretty outstanding. I feel like I’ve cheated myself by waiting this long to try this beer. It’s great. If this was made by a hip US brewery it’d have a huge reputation.

330ml bottle, pours black with a tan head, aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, citrus notes, hoppy, medium light body, creamy texture, oily, soft carbonation, finish is dry, grapefruit bitter, like a strong black IPA, light bodied for an imperial stout.

Bottle. Pours deep black, small tan head, dissipates quickly, decent lacing. Aroma is rich, some cocoa, anise, molasses, roasted malts. Flavor is light plus sweet and quite bitter, anise, blackstrap molasses, a bit sharp, verge of rubbery, some ashtray. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. Long lasting lingering bitterness is a bit distracting.

Bottle from bottle-shop.eu. Thanks Bob! Dark brown colour, brown foam. Medium carbonation. Roasted malts, chocolate and coffee. Very bitter hoppy finish, grassy notes. More Imperial Black IPA than Imperial Stout. Good.

Bottle. Black oily pour, big brown foamy head. Aroma of chocolate, red fruit and sourish oak. Mouthfeel is smooth and velvet. Taste of coffee, pure cacao, red fruit, bit of milk and a bitter grassy finish. Tasteful, as always with buxton beers. Fruity and hoppy, like a black imperial ipa.

Bue à la pression. Nez cafe, moka pour cette puissante et corpulente imperial stout. Notes de fruits noirs. Belle rondeur. Très agréable.

Pours dark with a stable, tan head that leaves some lacing. A lot of dark chocolate in the aroma, some dark fruits (especially plums), cocoa, coffee. In the taste dark fruits come first, then a hefty doze of dark chocolate spreads on the palate followed by coffe, some roastiness and coffe-alcoholic bitterness. Long chocolate aftertaste makes you wait for an another sip. Very good, warming beer.

Bottle 4 of my Buxton mini tasting night. Christmas present Thanks to s_hartshorne for this big want. Black beer with large tan head and good lacing. Aroma of cocoa, dark fruits and roast coffee. Taste is bitter coffee, roasted malts, smoke, dark fruits and some chocolate. Medium bodied. Excellent beer, solid.
