Ughsmash (2612), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA May 1, 2008 Many thanks to Kan for opening this at DLD! Poured hazy medium golden with a looser cap of white head. The aroma picked up a nice vinegar and shredded fruit skin tartness accented by lightly-toasted oak.. light herbal notes showed as well.. somewhat restrained. The flavor had a building fruit and vinegary tartness paired with peppery spices and a dusty, mildly funky yeast presence.. finished dry with a refreshing tartness. Sour and dry on the palate with nice balance.. really good stuff!
holdenn (1034), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 1, 2008 750ml bottle sampled at DLD thanks to Kan for opening this up. Pours a dark hazed orange with a beige head. Nose is barnyard, cheese, a yeast funk. A bit dusty with a bit of wood. The flavors are a leathery cheese musty yeasty sour. Almost chewy texture. Finished dry and tart. Really really tasty brew. One of my favorite beers of the day. Thanks kan! masonjer (337), Lansing, Michigan, USA Apr 29, 2008 Thanks so much to Kan for sharing at DLD. Poured a burnt orange/brown color. Bit of citrus and sour fruit funk on the nose. Flavors are earthy, funky, with a touch of wood. Nothing overpowering here, almost too reserved. Would have liked a bigger finish as well, but still a really nice accessable sour. kmweaver (1574), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA Apr 29, 2008 750mL bottle, generously shared by pantanap at DLD. Thanks, Kan! Pours a murky, orange-amber color; light khaki head with patchy, medium-bubbled lacing. Lots of grapefruit, citrus, toasted wood and red fruits in the aroma: funky, citrus, and dry. Lively carbonation. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: funk, grapefruit, and tart citrus, with a solid amount of acidity and complex sourness; excellent, mildly tart stuff; very well put together, with toasty oak and citrus throughout. Lengthy finish, showing tart citrus, oak and some breadiness. pantanap (587), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 27, 2008 Updated: Apr 29, 2008750ml from the brewery..... a for the most part cloudy dark caramel brown pour with a thin foamy milky white head.... aroma of sweet sugary malt, light tart stemming from the oak and subdued sour tart cherries.... flavors were sweet and earthy, almost medicinal in nature. medium carbonation with a lively mouthfeel. level of tartness wasn’t as high as i would have liked. i wish it had more of a sour component to it but it generally was pretty nice.
