Bottle from Kris Wines. The pour’s deep brownish black with a medium tan head. The nose is charred grain, chocolate, some grass. The taste is light tropical fruit hoppiness (pineapple), ballasted with plenty of earthy roasted grains and coffee bitterness. Light chocolate. Medium body, smooth. Overall, pretty decent stuff!

Bottled (from AbM). More or less very deep amber colour (close to back) with a mediumsized beige foamy head, that lasts for quite a while. Aroma is mild chocolate, some roasted notes as well as quite fruity and floral notes. Flavour is rather similar in a quite nice balance. For once a pleasant Black IPA, which doesn’t overdo any of the flavours, but instead making a nice and smooth combination.

Bottle at home in London. Pours black-brown with a strong, beige froth head. Aroma holds modest roast, some juicy citrus, burnt pine. Light to medium sweet flavor with some earthy roast, burnt sugars, dried citrus, dirt, charred wood. Medium bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Lightly resinous to finish, some dry roast, some lemon, orange. It’s a decent black IPA but it could use some more teeth.

Cask at the Southampton Arms on 2nd October 2012. Black with thin tan head. Roast malts and berry fruits in aroma. Rich grapefruit and coffee in-mouth, with the two working well together. Fine citrus finish with some earthiness and plenty of roastiness. Medium body and slightly grainy mouthfeel.
