COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A dark porter with a rich and opaque appearance. It has a dominant nose with aromas of toasted cocoa and dark malts. There are initial dark berry notions with subtle roasted hazelnut flavours, finishing on a suprisingly refreshing floral hop. Here’s one for the hard worker who still finds time for a good old knees-up "Doin’ the Lambeth Walk, Oi!"

Keg Old Fountain London. A black beer with a whitish head and lacing. A good roasty aroma with coffee. The coffee is prevalent in the mouth too. A nice and smooth roasty porter with good carbonation even on keg. A bit of veg as you might expect too. Decent and very tasty.

(Cask at Southampton Arms, Kentish Town, London, 19 April 2012) Very dark brown colour, almost black, with brief beige head. Roasted, malty nose with coffee, dried fruit and dark rye bread. Roasted, malty taste with notes of coffee, chocolate, dark rye bread, raisins, prunes and a generous coffee bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Solid and well made. Excellent porter.

UPDATED: MAR 14, 2012 Cask gravity, Leicester BF, 09/03/12. Glossy pitch, subsiding tan head. Raisiny dark chocolate, dappled with espresso aroma. Quite outstanding flavour; dark dried fruits, milky mocha, deep confectionery chocolate, plummy streaks. Deep malts. Finally burnt; cigar linger with cocoa powder. Rounded, satisfying stout not shy on the flavour front. Didn’t like the wheat but this is different league. Deep and layered. Up there with the Oakham: a contender for Beer of The Festival.

On tap at the Rake. Opaque dark brown beer with a small bubbly tan head. Smooth, almost silky palate, semi dry. Creamy dark malt with a trace of licorice come chicory. Very subtle red fruits underneath. Semi dry finish with mild bitter linger. Decent porter.
