COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A Pale with a big character all to itself. Once in the glass it has an outwardly simple and easy going golden appearance but it comes with lots of baggage! A well balanced mellow malt gives the beer a clear and rich body whilst a myriad of well selected hops leaves the beer with a wonderfully crisp late bitter finish.

Bottle from an Odd Bins near the Earl’s Court station. Pours light copper with a transient white head. Aroma has a hint of toffee with some light fruit. Med body. Flavor starts toffee and picks up coffee. At least that’s what my brain is coming up with. It’s bitter and the coffee seems to be turning into hop. It drinks really nicely, and it’s finishing bitter after the "toffee" washes away.

[330ml bottle] Pours dark amber with a thin white head. Aroma is nettley bitterness, zesty grapefruit and bitter, bitter greens. Similar flavours, with an almost minerally bitterness. A bit too much [08042013]

Bottle at home from ales by mail.
Pours burnished gold after robbing madly over the kitchen. Oxidized cardboard and burnt rubber on the nose, not promising. Diacetyl and thin malt body, acrid. Drain pour :(

330 ml bottle.
Pours a dark golden colour with a white foamy head. Aroma of grainy malts, bread and some mild fruitiness. Flavour of grainy malts, metals, soap, soy sauce, wet paper, fresh nettles and grassy bitterness. Light bodied, high carbonation and a horribly tangy, light bitter and salty finish. Not enjoyable at all and rather repulsive.

330ml bottle of Stiff Upper Lip from Westholme Stores, Goring. Amber with a ring of white head; weakly citrus aroma; zingy flavour with some lime and lemon and a pleasant malty body; then a sustained bitter finish. Rather good.

Bottle from Oddbins London Bridge. Clear gold with lasting white head. Faint oxidised diacetyl aroma. Yes in the mouth the feel is good and the finish is ok but the aroma and flavours really let it down. On this example not a good pale ale.

Cask at The Pub, Leicester. Hazy golden beer with light white head. Smells fruity, tastes of citrus hops with bitter finish. Thin bodied. Decent enough. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(Cask at Southampton Arms, Kentish Town, London, 21 Nov 2012) Golden amber colour with brief, white head. Fruity, slightly hoppy nose with notes of dried fruit, apricots and slightly earthy hops. Fruity, malty taste with dried apricots, orange peel, and slightly earthy hops in a finish with a generous bitterness. Light body, quite dry. Nice one.
