COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Who said session bitter had to be bland? Generous additions of fuggles and goldings hops means our standard bitter is stuffed with flavour.

Cask conditioned at The Gatehouse Tavern, Coventry. Amber with white head. A fairly standard biscuity malt bitter, fairly dry and refreshing. Decent enough.

Tasted locally in Coventry, pump tapped, served in british pint glass. It’s an amber, low carbonate, moderated bitter and quite light beer.

Bottle. Golden with a small head and low carbonation. Some bitterness but nothing overpowering,A gentle bitter with no really dominating flavours or complexity. It says on the bottle that its a session beer and that is what it is.

UPDATED: JUL 20, 2011 1) Cask handpull, Whitefriars, Coventry. Finally, I tracked a pint of Byatt’s down and the biggest city in the UK without a brewery (and my hometown) has its own micro. Bastards beat me to it. Orange amber with a loose, well-behaved white collar. Light resinous aroma with tropical and catty suggestions. Good soapy rasp of bitterness, pineapple, chaffy finish. Bitter linger. Promising. 737313=3.3...................... 2) Bottle-conditioned. Pours burnished with a fine, moussey collar. Strong, fresh hop aroma with the surprisingly piney, orange jelly, catty notes that back garden Fuggles can have, plus some elder, plus some celery, plus some supporting liquorice, plus some coffee. Sky blue tinted spectacles aside, a fine smelling ale. Excellent stewed tea malty/hoppy notes on the palate; celery, shortbread- bit like TT used to taste when I started drinking it. Prickling carbonation, but better bottled than 90% of English BC beers. Some soap and elderflower in the finish, which is raspy and lingering. Well-wrung, balanced, biscuity. Hobnob afters. Eclipses the cask version I encountered, so re-rated accordingly.
