I should have been put off by the "brewed under licence" notice. A bland watery concoction with a malty cardboard taste. Dull as dishwasher.

Chilled 330ml bottle. Suprised me to read this catagorised as a pale lager. Looks like i’ve been fooled again! Some biscuity malt on the nose, brown sugar sweetness. Deep golden body with a ring of whiteish lace. Body is thin and pretty flat, with a bit of malt and reasonably sweet brown sugar. Some alcohol in there. Finish is dry, slightly chalky, showing little hop flavour or bitterness. Drinkable but a bit on the bland. Certainly not an ale.

Pale gold with large sized bubbles speeding to the top of the glass to prop up the sizeable whipped egg white head (which didn’t really last though). Typical oz pale lager aroma of metal and some hay. Flavour isn’t too bad, sweet but not too sweet to drink. Some bitterness which seems typical PoR. Light body, with only the raw alcohol giving it any depth. Carbonation is fairly restrained. Another crappy australian lager. Note: I’ve put in for the style to be corrected to Pale Lager

rant on - This is a lager, ale it is not. Someone needs to get the marketing genius bent over a fence and have Byron Bay hippy bongos shoved up his butt until he notices the difference- rant off. Pours a star-bright gold with medium carbonation and a mid sized thightly packed head. Light aroma of grassy hops. Grassy hops to the fore with perhaps a hint of malt, thin body with a clean light bitter finish. Not as horrible as I expected. OK LAGER sessional.

I don’t mind this one. After a chopper heavy it’s like beer heaven. Pale colour and a head that starts well but fades quickly. Initial aroma of hops that disapears quickly and leaves a slight malty aroma. Sweet malt flavour with maybe a hint of fruitiness. Somewhat bitter finish but no hop flavour. Not bad.

vanvenlo (915) - Glen Iris, AUSTRALIA - MAY 19, 2006
24 Mar 2006 - Sweet light malt aroma. Clear yellow-amber colour, ordinary head and lacing. Sweet hoppy malt flavour. Hoppy finish and a stale hop aftertaste.

Another of the Blue Tongue Brewery’s beers for tourists. The brewery based outside Newcastle, NSW, now brews beers branded for several of Australia’s leading tourist destinations, including the Hunter Valley, Bondi, Darwin (Darwin Stubby) and Byron Bay. Byron Bay is one of Australia’s quirkiest towns. This is not one of Australia’s quirkiest beers. Pale gold colour, 1.5cm head, bit of lace. Hint of citric hops and pale malt in a hum-drum lager aroma. Thin-bodied. Sweet malt on the tongue and a weak bitter finish. All malt and not enough hops. It says ale on the label but everything else says lager. Blue Tongue seems determined to stand for dull competency. Nothing wrong with this but why would you? (Bottle)

Commercial looking amber colour - very cleary. Nose doesn’t really excite, some citrus and limey notes, or is it a stale note? Palate much the same with boring larger notes and a sweet, limey note the reflects poorly on whatever malt was used.

mullet (849) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - DEC 18, 2004
Pale and clear. Quite skunky. Bit of milky malt and Nice biscuit aroma, otherwise pretty clean. Light but malty flavour - not particularly refined but nice enough. Bit of tangy hop flavour which is good but little bitterness. Milky. Bears a stunning resemblance to Bondi Blonde I’d say, but I definitely enjoyed this more. Not that exciting but it hit the spot. I’m surprised they claim this is an ale too actually.
