The Farmer’s Cabinet Rauch-N-Roggen White Wine Barrel Aged

Draft at The Boilermaker in Philadelphia, PA. Pours a golden orange color with tangerine edges and a two finger, frothy off-white head that very slowly fades into a thick, lasting cap/ring.  The glass is left coated with streaks and large chunks of soapy lace. Odd aroma that melds elements of the base beer with toasted osk and vinous light fruit notes.  Takes away from the smoke a bit but it’s still there with subtle charcoal, butane and smoked bacon notes followed by spicy rye and sweet malt notes. Medium bodied with a decent barrel presence that provides more sweetness and dryness than the base beer. Decent amount of toasted oak but not overpowering with sweet light fruit notes and prominent white wine flavor.  The sweetness cuts the smoke a bit too much for me but it’s still there with hints of subtle charcoal and smoked meat followed by spicy rye and sweet malt.  Hints of caramel, toffee and hazelnut before a dry finish.  Pretty good but the white wine notes overtake the smoke a bit too much for me.
