2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 gramity (601) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - FEB 10, 2012
Draft at cactus club in Calgary. I asked the server who brewed this and was told Granville Island. Not sure if the server or RB is correct on the brewer...
Appearance is cloudy golden and pretty standard for a hefe. The nose was bready with hints of banana and light light spice. The taste brought out a touch of glove and a bit of banana in the finish. Again, pretty standard and not bad for a house ale. Although, if you are going to have someone else brew your house beers why don’t you just order a keg of some established beer that is actually good?
Anyway, decent with my meal. Much much better than the "Udder Ale" I had after it.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 humulushound (242) - British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 29, 2010
Draught at cactus club. White head, opaque blond wheat ale. Aroma is light grain, sourdough, spicy hops and light banana. Taste is sweet and spice with a fresh pungent finish. Very drinkable and kudos to cactus club for having more than mediocre macros on tap.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 GeneralGao (3545) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - MAY 26, 2009
Draft at The Cactus Club Cafe in Vancouver. I think this may be brewed by Granville Island rather than Sleeman, as the previous rater suspected. Also, it is a hefe, and a decent one at that. Perhaps the recipe changed. Very cloudy, tawny beer. Ugly to some, perhaps, but it looked pretty good to me. The head was thin and white. Smelled of yeasty bread dough, spices, and subdued banana bread. Medium bodied and delicately sweet. Tasted of banana bread, minimal clove, and some caramel.
2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 CapFlu (3798) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 10, 2007
(Draught) On tap at the Cactus Club Cafe in Victoria as their house specialty beer called "Ugly Ale." Pours a near headless body with a clear, non-carbonated deep amber body. Nose is toxic butterscotch. Flavour is weak and mildly buttery. I originally thought that this "specially brewed to their recipe" was Granville Island because of other Granville beers on tap and the very similar Pale Ale taste of the exact butterscotch that I got from the GI Pale Ale at the Tudor House. Web evidence suggests that its a Sleeman brew?
