COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pasteurised nitro-keg and nitro-can beer.
"A smooth, creamy ale." Introduced in 1994 as a 4.8% Irish Ale by Bass at Caffrey's Ulster brewery, and promoted strongly with an advertising campaign of "strong words softly spoken". Interbrew took over in 2000, soften the recipe and attempted to catch the lager market, using a new promotion of "a storm brewing". Coors acquired the brand in 2002. Initially contract brewed by Interbrew for Coors at Ulster, the brand eventually moved to Coor's Tower Brewery in Tadcaster.

Goes down very nice, smooth texture, creamy. Best drank on tap. It's good beer to start a night off with, and it tastes great with a meal.

Creamy body and head. Body is somewhat bland compared to other better cream ales, somewhat metallic finish.

UPDATED: MAY 23, 2004 Nitroflush can. Copper, thick lump of artificial foam, minimal condition. Thick head mutes most aroma but some caramel and toffee is apparent. Malty with a tendancy towards caramel in the mouth with a low hint of hops. Hop bitter in the finish but the nitroflush leaves you with a nasty aftertaste.

[Nitro can] This beer has a sweet aroma with notes of roasted malt, yeast, caramel, and fruit. The color is amber and it has the dense nitro-head - a beutiful head - but in my opinion cheating. The mouthfeel is extremely soft due to the nitrogen. The flavor is of Caffrey - there is something unique - though on my tastebuds not that interesting about Caffreys flavor. If I should describe it; very sweet and malty - from a weird malt blend bringing out notes of caramel, roasted bread, fruit, and yeast. The end has an OK bitterness that lingers on the tongue together with notes of the roasted malt. The body is thin. Not a favorite with me.

This is an easy drinking beer which I dont mind having now and then. It has slight amount of flavour, but is a bit too watery. This definitely should be had on tap. Oh, and an excellent, lacy head.

Pours well and is certainly a nice treat once in a while, but I favour Boddingtons to this. Better than Kilkenny but not as good as Boddingtons.

Red amber colour, little aroma, smooth creamy but very little taste. Wont be in any hurry to re-rate!
