2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
A good Irish cream ale. Served on nitro gives a the signature cascading beer glass. Some caramel on the nose but it's hard to pick up because of the N2. Medium to light body and english hops abounding.

Excellent pour that started out butterscotch-colored then settled into the more typical Ale hue. Creamy almost to a fault, as there was not much of a beer flavor to it at all. Slightly tannic, and overall the flavor does not live up to the looks.

Used to drink this on draught when it first came out, bought 4 cans on promotion the other day not realising the taste and abv have been changed...in a word shocking!!! Weak as water, far too smooth, poor, what a shame.

450ml Aluminium Bottle (it’s a posh can with a cap) of Caffrey’s Premium Irish Ale, 3.8%ABV; BBD 28 Feb 2013, poured at home into a ’Good Poeple’ badged US pint glass on 2 Apr 2013, so a bit out of date.
Bright amber body with a head that left before it arrived.
Mildly malty in the nose, but not much of anything really.
Malty feel to the flavour, semi-sweet caramel and Bourbon biscuits without the middle (the creamy bit). Watery, but not unpleasant, just a little too understated and overall weak in body depth and flavour strength.
Not something I’d have again: I do however remember when it first hit the bars in the UK, very popular with my mates, I even enjoyed a few pints. It has changed for the worst and it wasn’t too great to start with!

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
I’ve never had it from a can, but I don’t have the option of rating the draught version. Many moons ago I used to drink it with friends in Cardiff. Hit and miss on draught, but never bad. Sometimes tasted amazing (on draught in the Rummer Tavern in Cardiff) - sweet honey flavours. 3.7 Had again in an Irish pub in Watford recently - tasted OK, but didn’t have the sweetness that it sometimes had at the Rummer. 3.3 It seems that the beer has changed under new ownership.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
(16oz nitro can, dated Jan 31, 2013) clear deep gold, creamy white head that lasts the whole drinking session and coats the glass decently. Nose of caramel, pretty rich for 3.8% ABV, light butter, unleavened bread and yeast, perhaps some other biscuit/cracker quality as well. Taste is light and drinkable, sourdough bread, light caramel, hints of stonefruit in the background. Perhaps a bit light on fruit and a little earthy in general, but drinkable in general. Just kind of boring, and maybe that’s not such a bad thing.

Can left in my fridge from a four pack from visiting friend this weekend. Copper colour with large creamy head. Aroma is initially malts then nothing. Taste is poor, a hint of caramel and malts, otherwise tasteless. Watery on the palate, not good.

Malty metallic and dull? Ok. Barnyard? Maybe. Dull yes. 3.8% version. Bit rubbish. Haha, my bad, was this fella... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Paine would help if I actually knew who I was named after, probably quite important to my parents. Interestingly, the head boy from my school 2 years above me had the lead role in a play about him at The Globe in London... here... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_New_World:_A_Life_o saw it too, was interesting. Quite a good person to be named after. Better than an animal? Maybe.

I recall three things from my time in Burton. 1) The cold. It was always cold. Always. 2) The chip butty. I can’t recall the name of the chippy but they did this chips on a long bread roll thing for about 50p. Kept me alive. 3) The stink from the breweries. This reminds me of that smell. It’s also a bit malty, metallic and dull, but strangely ok.
