COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fraxinus Maximus, in keeping with the Cahaba theme, Fraxinus is named after the Genus of the Ash tree which is a common species along our beautiful Cahaba River. Fraxinus is an amazing Double IPA. By using a technique called Hop Bursting, we are able to create a beer that has 120 calculated IBU’s. However you’ll find it is anything but bitter, Fraxinus is a well balanced Double IPA with a solid malt backbone and complex hop aromas.

UPDATED: APR 14, 2013 Draft in the taproom. Poured pale gold with a smallish off-white head. Aroma was orange, grapefruit, caramel, some pine. Flavor was lots of orange and grapefruit, almost sort of tang-like. Kind of murky and soapy. Some nice caramel, but it seemed to me that it needed either more malt backbone or a cleaner-tasting hop. Alcohol was hidden pretty well. Medium mouthfeel. Had a version of this on draft yesterday at J Clyde -- Frax Max with "mystery fruit," which turned out to be apricot. I liked it a whole lot more than the plain version. The flavor was deeper and cleaner. The sweetness from the apricot worked well with the grapefruity, bitter hops. I’d drink this regularly. In this version: Ar: 7; Ap: 3; T: 7; P: 4; O: 14 = 3.5.
