A Gold medal winner in the international brewing industry awards 2000, and a three times bronze medal winner at the Great British Beer Festival in the Best Mild category, this is a smooth, full flavoured, truly dark mild with a rich creamy head. It has a full body and distinctive roasted malt taste, balanced by its fresh hop character. Complex flavours and aromas are achieved by blending deeply roasted malt and adding a selected blend of English hops.

Tashi’s house, 28/05/08. 440ml can to round off the evening. A very straightforward, chocolatey mild. The roasted malt gives it an enjoyable biscuity flavour and it has a wonderfully smooth mouthfeel. A very drinkable modern mild.

14.9 oz can into English Pint Glass. Deep brown, chunky tan head. Faint roast scent. Taste is cold, old coffee, a bit of chocolate. Nice flavour, but weak...very watery. Hint of metallics from can. Needs more..."ooomph."

(sample at Wine and Cheese Place) dark brown with very little head. Roast malt aroma. Nutty, chocolate flavor.

Nice carbonation, smell is plesant, possibly some roasty notes in there. Not overpowering. Color is very dark, not much for head, dissipated quickly. Flavor is roasty, some chocolate and coffee flavors. Body and mouthfeel are majorly thin. Not a whole lot going on here, but I wasn’t expecting much.

440ml can poured into an English Pint. Pours very dark with about a finger of nut brown head. Aroma is mostly chocolate with a dose of something a little sour, some coffee and some roasty nuts. Taste is light bitter. Baking chocolate, coffee and nuts. Almost reminds me of a porter. Light bodied with a thin texture. Flat carbonation and a decently long finish. Overall, not bad. Not a style I’d really get into but I’ll enjoy this one.

Poured from a can into an English pint glass. Appearance is a dark, chocolate brown with a velvety khaki colored head of foam. Aroma is light and airy milk chocolate. Tastes a good deal like a watered down hot chocolate.

Can. Roasty malt, chocolate, coffee and ashy aroma. Clear dark brown with a small creamy tan head, and decent lacing. Light roasted coffee and chocolate flavor with a bitter finish like charred toast. Thin watery body.

Arrived in a pint pub glass and looked much like a very dark Coke with a slight foam head. Lots of bubbles visible in the dark brown liquid. Initial smoke in the nose (very subtle but there). Definitely a hint of the smoky roasted malt in the first taste, with a spritz on the tongue and a very mild (sorry to use that word) flavor that reminded me of a "light" (albeit dark?) beer. Very drinkable and at 3.2% ABV hardly noticeable as an alcoholic beverage. But enjoyed it. Very thin body with lots of carbonation and a very (very) dry finish that almost made your mouth feel dry... perhaps that was deliberate (makes you drink more). Nothing I’d order again, but I enjoyed it. You could put down a bunch of them with a meal and never have any problems walking out the door.

sampled at azwine 11/10/11. pale porter color with a small soapy light tan head. it smells a lot like hazelnut coffee... mixed with choco, roast, wet wood and a little hamster cage-y. the flavor is a watered down version of the aroma but with no finish, bitterness or balance. thin watery mouth feel yet creamy smooth. 6/4/5/2/13-

Can. In my opinion, this beer is underrated. Very dark pour with a nice foamy tan head. Roasty nose. Lighter but smooth palate - almost seems like its nitro. Taste is smooth, mild roast, easy drinking - outstanding for the style - character and drinkability.

Draft at Park Lane Tavern. Certainly dark, with a creamy top. Drinks as a mild should, with a ... well ... mild character. Thin bodied, utterly easy to drink, with just a hint of a toasty flavor. Most people could drink a tankard of this. (#4545, 3/27/2012)
