Bottled. A light amber coloured, virtually headless beer. The aroma is fairly cardboardy with some sweet caramel hints. The taste is predominantly malty with some boiled sweets. Obvious pasteurisation. Noticeable alcohol. A boring English dead bottled beer with added ooomph.

Bottle. Golden ale with a quickly dissipating head. Aroma is sweetish and a little metallic. Taste is malts, fruits maybe plum and caramel. Quite sweet. A little too carbonated. Quite nice if you fancy a sweet beer for a change.

Can’t believe I’ve never reviewed this before: 500ml bottle best before the end of July 2012, poured into an Abbot Ale badged glass tankard two weeks before that date. The deep golden body had a slight hazy look but the perfectly formed head and aroma compensated for it completely. Malts all the way here with hops always trying to break even both in the smell and taste: this ensures the beer is semi-sweet and has a mini bitterness at all times as well. The 5.0% ABV suits it nicely and it sits well as the beer sinks down my tankard leaving some thick lacing after each gulp.

Light brown ESB with a little foam. Flavoring of the timber. High Carbonated, thin but with a nice woody, English hoppy flavor.

Bottle from Aldi in Neston. Clear amber colour with some rising carbonation bubbles and a head that quickly disappears after pouring. Aroma is of citrus hops and a hint of toast. The taste is dominated by hops with an array of fairly bitter citrus flavours which tingle the tongue. Overall, a very drinkable premium bitter, but doesn’t stand out too much from the crowd.
