3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cask at Doctor Duncan’s Liverpool.
I wish people would stick with making beer that is beer flavoured (apart from some ginger beers that are nice). This just doesn’t do one thing or the other. Not fruity enough to be something like a kriek, and not got enough balance to carry it off. Shame as I love Cains

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
On cask at Wildmoor Oak, Wildmoor. Pours brown with quick fading head. Initial hit of raisins gives a very promising start. The finish is confused and disappointing. Probably needs a bit more body.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Glorious aroma of the heavy fruits over a sweet maltyness. Pours dark and luscious. Medium body feel for all the flavour, rich raisin taste and a lingering bitter sweet aftertaste.

Wetherspoon Giddy Bridge Southampton beer festival Autumn 2009. Sweet smelling malty beer with sweet dried fruit body. Fairly one dimensional.

Clear medium amber color with a average, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, sweet berry - raisin, toffee, light roasted, light to moderate hoppy. Flavor is moderate sweet and light light bitter with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cask, Doctor Duncans, Liverpool. I always have this when I see it, and this is my favourite Cains beer by a distance. Refreshing, pleasantly fruity and very moreish. Far more appealing than a lot of boring, samey UK ale out there and long may they keep producing this.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading. Amber with a thin cream head; fruity malt aroma; the sweet juicy raisin flavour is very pleasant and slightly spicy; the finish is dry, sweet and fruity. Overall well-balanced and not dominated by sweet fruit.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Handpulled cask at JDW Harrow on the Hill. Deep amber with an of white head. Raisins seem to come through in a predominately malty profile. Interesting.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Copper colour with white head. Sweet and fruity, strangely of raisins I reckon, although thankfully not over the top. Slightly thin in the finish, but reasonable.

JDW Rochester. This does exactly what it says on the tin - it tastes like a fine raisin beer. It has a vanilla sweetness with a dry rusty finish. It’s OK.
