wyzzywyz22 (453), Wirral, Merseyside, England Mar 28, 2008 Bottle from the Brewey tap, Cains Brewery. I can understand why this may not be to everyones taste, but I found this to be a great beer. Pours darkish ruddy amber. Raisins clearly evident in the aroma. Taste is full bodied, sweet for sure but not overpoweringly so. There is a really refreshing tang about this which gives way to a crisp lingering dry finish. Recommended la.
HogcliffeLenny (158), Christchurch, Dorset, England Oct 19, 2008 Bottle 500ml from Morrisons in Barry. Amber pour with no head. Aroma of stewed vine fruits. Unsurprisingly, vine fruits come through in the flavour. As Fin points out, there is an artificial sweetness to it. The aftertaste is just like that of a 1970s 1 cal drink. Nothing particularly warms me towards this one Gethinbeer (684), Nova Scotia, Canada Sep 7, 2008 Slight skunky aroma, this soon fades and you get fruits coming through and yes, some raisin. Thin white head, copper in colour. Fruity flavour, raisin and grapes. Maybe a bit thin, no punch, but still a fine ale to enjoy. Little soapy in the finish. thebeertourist (2005), Oslo, Norway Aug 23, 2008 Bottle. Clear copper with a small head. Nutty and raisiny aroma, like a good bock. Even hints of cellar. Remarkably dry despite the presence of raisins. Body could have been fuller. Quite accomplished for a fruit beer. scotty (759), Scotland Aug 23, 2008 Bottle from Morrisons. Slightly hazy head white and fading fast. Nose fruity and spicy, palate is smooth and overwhelmingly bland, only flavour is a hint of bitter fruit on the finish. A poor Cains brew, nice idea but needs some work methinks. tarjei (1370), Bryne, Norway Jul 20, 2008 50 cl bottle at Dispensary pub, Liverpool. Amber color, big fuzzy head. Aroma is dark fruit and hops. Flavor is fruity, most of all raisin, nice sweetness and hops, but a bit watery. Very drinkable.
