2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 rauchbier (3205) - Isle Of Beer, - JUN 12, 2004
Can. Deep chestnut, thin shortlived white head and low condition. Typical English aromas of toffee, caramel and hops in the nose. Toffee more prominent in the mouth although the hops start to kick in later on and contribute a touch of delicate bitterness in the finish. There is a faint suggestion of sweet smokiness throughout, although that may have just been wishful thinking on my part.

Low alcohol bitter... doesn’t really deserve to be in the same category of others. Carbonation is high, and creamy. Bubbles stuck to the side of the glass. Smell is weak toffee, carbonation, barnyard funk aroma. Moutfeel is decrepit. Taste is slightly roast, mostly toffee flavors with a thin body. High carbonation. No real presence of hops, just a slightly bitter finish. Overall clean hidden yeast, also, not the usu.. old world brewing heavy on the honey flavors. Exactly what I would be looking for on a hot summer day, with more flavor depth than a lager. Enjoyability 4/5.

440ml can. Pours dark amber with a thin wispy white head. Notes of sweet caramelized malt, chewy raisins, wood, toffee, nuts and resinous dates. Medium bodied, lightly sticky with soft carbonation. Enjoyable, but not exceptional.

Savannah, Ga - Habersham Beverage Warehouse - 440 ml can. Iced tea looking pour, very light head. Pretty much of a neutral aroma - hint of bittersweet chocolate. Nice mellow bittersweet flavor with subtle chocolate notes, some strong tea, and a hint of licorice. Appropriate mouthfeel for a bitter. Good session material.

Can. After waiting an eternity for a single (a 4-pack costs $10 at Spec’s), my patience was rewarded in Austin, as I bought a single for $1.50. Thank goodness I only bought one... Aroma is wet autumn leaves soaked in dank maple syrup and wet biscuits. Flavor is coppery malt and stale biscuit. Pours an average tea brown, by the way. Watery mouthfeel. Good thang I only spent $1.50 on one.

Copper colored, a little apple cider vinegar, minerals, some hops, and malts. A little weird roast chocolate thing going on that is not as pleasant. Taste is roast, some hop background bitterness, and ok.

Total Wine & More, Chantilly 14.0oz can ($1.50): Pours a brownish colour with a creamy head. Aroma is mostly caramel malt with some hops. Taste is slightly metallic with a bunch of caramel malt. A small amount of hop bitterness is present. Easy drinking and it has a nice mouthfeel, but as a beer in total, it ain’t that great.
