COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular.
Previously known as Doctor Duncans IPA.
NOTE: Only ratings for the cask version should be entered here. The pasteurised version, available in kegs and cans, has a separate listing.
Did you know that IPA stands for Indian Pale Ale, and that it was originally brewed for sale in India, becoming popular in the UK following a shipwreck in the Irish Sea in 1827, when barrels of IPA were auctioned off in Liverpool? IPA is one of Cains’ best selling cask ales: a refreshing session beer, with a subtle hop aroma and a light, yet full flavour.

Cask. Low but lasting white fluffy head. Clear brown body. Mild apple pear aroma and flavor. Low carbonation and a long sweet aftertaste.

Cask Conditioned at Dr. Duncans, Liverpool. Golden amber in colour, good white head. Full of hops as it should be, probably a little sweet for a true IPA but nevertheless refreshing.

UPDATED: JUL 28, 2008 Cask at local club. I had this before and not been that impressed, however I was surprised how much flavour there was. A good session beer but slighty on the thin side.

It’s dark amber with a creamy head, and the aroma has notes of caramel and fruit. The flavour is light to moderately sweet with notes of caramel, fruit and the finish is dry and slightly bitter. It’s uncomplicated and easy to drink.

Cask. Golden amber, small fairly well alsting white head. Hoppy fresh fruity sweet aroma. Ok mouthfeel. Pleasant fresh fruity and sweet hoppy flavour with a pleasant bitterness. Tasty brew.

From the cask at Ye Grapes, Mayfair. Tea-ish amber body, small head. Lots of floral, grass flavours and buckets of hops. A long dry finish. I had this after a pint of Arudel Castle, which was fairly flavourless so my opinion might be coloured. However, this was one of the nicest IPA’s I’ve had. Loads of hops and a long dry finish - how an IPA should be. Lovely.

Cask at Doctor Duncan’s Liverpool. Not sure what this is supposed to be. It certainly is not an IPA. Bit weak, amber coloured and just not enough flavour anywhere, there is a bit of sweet malt and a bit of tangy hops, but it really does not go anywhere. Disappointing from a good brewery
