500ml can. Caramel colour with a creamy white head; weak malty aroma; clean flavour, sweet with a good hop balance; dry to finish. Very drinkable, and excellent value.

500ml can. First rating for four years? Pours dark orange with a thin head. Aroma is yeasty and sweet apple. Taste has sweet bread to start. Bread and sweet apple on the finish.

Tinned. Clear chesnut pour with a thinning halo of suds. Nose of caramel, gravy, roasted malt, chocolate, oak. Not bad out of a can. Smooth and malt-accented Bitter with a very pleasant hint of chocolate.

UPDATED: APR 11, 2007 One nitpick - this is definitely a premium bitter, not a strong ale. And a far better one than the price, and that Cains aren’t marketing this under their own name, would suggest. Cheesy can screaming 500ml around the top, contents much better than indicated thankfully - pours golden brown with nice creamy whitish head, disappears quickly with sud ring remaining and slight lacing. Aroma sweet, fruity and inviting. Flavour sweet, smooth malt, lively hops adding a little bitterness, plenty of fruit flavour. Finish drier, lingering and delicious - this is a nice session ale with a fairly light body, despite the 5% abv which is only evident by a slight tingly warmth on the swallow. Really very nice, especially at this price (8x500ml cans for £5.50) - if it were better packaged (and didn’t suggest you enjoy the contents ’well chilled’) they could certainly make more of this. Moreish.

Can (bought in a little "off-licence" in Fellinfoel/Wales): Clear, amber coloured, small, but stable creamy head; distinctive resinous hops in the fruity-malty aroma; mellow MF, light to medium bodied; initial sweet flavour, turning into a distinctive lingering bitter-sweet finish. A nice one, even from the can..........
