3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
From Tesco (£1.70 for 500ml):
Sweet with a few roasted malts to begin as expected along with some coffee and a nutty aroma too. Not the darkest stout on the nose with some nice fruit notes coming through too.
Dark ruby, almost black and topped with a huge, foamy, dome-shaped head that is light brown and seems to get bigger the longer the beer is sitting.
Sweet with the usual roasted malts and coffee with some chocolate and a few dark fruits as well and even a few hops coming through.
Light medium bodied beer, quite clean and almost watery with mild carbonation and a fair bit of bitterness along with a very slightly dry finish but nothing too severe with a good balance overall.
A little sweeter than I was expecting which was a pleasant surprise. There was a good balance and it was an easy to drink stout, the only real complaint was that it began to feel a little watery towards the tail end but other than that it was an enjoyable drink.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Tesco 241212
Black, ruby edges, frothy bubbly tan head with some lacing
Aroma - soft roasted malts, dark sweet malts
Taste - Roasted malts, dark sweet malts, getting a touch of milk sugars, touch of chocolate
Palate - Medium carb and body, smooth palate. Finish as main flavour, a little dry with a touch of bitter charcoal in the finish
Overall - I should have rated this ages ago. I’ve had the cask many times and this is pretty good bottled stout but not a patch on the cask beer which is more flavoursome, creamy with a richer body. The pasteurisation knocks some of the magic out of this stout and it becomes plainer. Maybe the bottled version needs to be brewed at a higher abv.

From bottle, dark brown leading to black colour. Treacle aroma with hint of dark chocolate and a strong nuttiness. Prominent malty flavor with molasses and a nice bitter ending. Smooth on the palate, not overly carbonated. Pleasant.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours with a thick frothy head and a nutty, chocolatey aroma and a flavour to match. Very smooth and almost creamy in the mouth and the aftertaste is mostly nut.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle at Delday’s house. Pours with a large head, which is slightly off white colour, actually I guess it is quite beige. A strong tasting brew. Nice.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
500ml bottle - a black body with tan head, classic stout look, a very smoky cigar-like taste, with a little kick of vanilla and cocoa. Lingering bitter after taste.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Black with a good lasting tan head. Aroma is smoke, coffee and chocolate. Flavour carries on from the aroma with more milk chocolate before a bitter coffee finish. Creamy mouthfeel. A very impressive stout.

Lovely dark Scottish thick stout. Great chocolate and coffee flavors with a licorice aftertaste. Great with dark meats. Not a session beer. Drink this on a cold winter night in front of an open fire and you can almost taste the Scottish highlands at Aviemore where it?s brewed. Try it with a whisky chaser, such as Bowmore, or some other peaty Islay malt.My favorite beer in the entire world.
