Bottle. Pours clear, dark brown, with a good slightly tanned frothy head that holds. Full bodied, medium carbonation, medium bubbles. Aroma is caramel, ginger, toasted barley. Taste is ginger thistle and sweet malt. Palate is fine carbonation. Finish is sweet and a touch dry.

Bottle. Reddish-brown pour. Aromas of sultanas, root ginger, sweet spices, chocolate, malts. Very vibrant nose. Flavours of chocolate, licorice, ginger, black treacle, dried fruit. The ginger flavour really eases through in this one. Sweet, spicy finish.

Ok had this in both cask and bottle, with both pretty similar. Deep ruby colour, with a malty nose, malty with a little spice , a little teacle and quite fruit with a little bitter in linger. nice and complex just like ’the man’ says

Dark amber colour beer poured from the bottle with an off white head. Swet malts and toffee dominate the nose, with a slight hint of bitterness that I can’t distinguish. Tasted of malts immediately followed by a bitter burst of citrus fruit, very different, but very nice. A medium-heavy bodied ale that suits me down to the ground. A good alternative to the usual pint of heavy, I will certainly have it again.

Copper-red in colour with a decent, off-white head and moderate carbonation. Aroma of forest fruit, herbs, root ginger, citrus and floral hops. Flavour had some sweetish malts, tingly herbs, a touch of spice and berry fruit and orange, before a dryish finish. A great bottled beer.

500ml bottle. Deep copper colour with a big, foamy off-white head. Sweet malt aroma with plenty of earthy hops. Big malt and red fruit flavours, with some slightly astringent herbs, spices and a decent bitter finish. Very good.

courtesy of Allen - pours a clear dark ruby-brown colour under a solid and long lasting beige foam; nice lacework; a fair toasted biscuity maltiness with notes of hazelnut; creamy mouthfeel and a moderate malt body; low carbonation and a fair earthy bitterness: malty and nutty finish

Bottle, from cgarvieuk, by way of Fin. Thanks for the bottle Craig! (And cheers for being courier Fin!) Sweet candy aroma, the cloth wrapping of an old cheese, nettle, very lively and noisy in an appealing way. Dark caramel and toast flavor, herbal bitterness. Light body, but the higher bottled carbonation level works really well here, and if feel really full of flavor. Old penny brown, lots of persistant beige head. I’m not sure where exactly the thistles contribute to this beer, but I rather like like. NIcest bottled bitter I’ve had in awhile.

50cl bottle. Slightly hazy golden copper in colour with a thin tan head; the aroma has chocolate malts and peat smoke, some wood and heather; the malts explode in the mouth, with lots of surprising and unusual flavours, blackcurrant and raspberry fizz on the tongue, over deeper chocolate and winter spices; the finish is clean and refreshing with fresh leafy hops. An excellent beer, and a pleasant surprise.

[500ml bottle.] Chestnut brown with a thin cream head; strongly malty aroma; stewed vegetable flavour (perhaps the thistle?), rather acidic and with stale malts; a dry metallic finish. Rather unpleasant.
