Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy bright reddish-amber color. Good off-white head with good retention. Aroma is roast malt, caramel, and dried fruit. Flavor is sweet malt, butterscotch, raisin and grassy hops. Medium bodied and lightly carbonated. Smooth-drinking, but not something I would seek out on a regular basis.

Pours out of the bottle in a clear dark amber colour with steady head and flat body. Nose of hops and nuts. Taste of medium bitter hops, caramel, toffee, nuts, leaves and woods. Light hints of roast. Easy and nice to drink, yet not very quaffable or delicious. Solid Bitter.

UPDATED: FEB 27, 2014 Bottle from Aldi. Clear amber/brown body with a thin off-white head. Light carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of lightly roasted malt, fruit and a touch of metal. Flavour of malt, earth, ginger and red fruits. Thin body with a watery texture. Soft carbonation. A straightforward Bitter.

500ml bottle. Contrary to other reviewers I didn’t find this to be an ordinary bitter. It is bittered with thistles as well as hops, a fact that seems to have been lost on others. The thistles are noticeable in the flavour with a spicy, weedy and earthy flavour. That said I prefer my hops so don’t think this improves the beer, it just makes it a little different. I’m glad I tried this but I have tasted better beers. Credit to the brewer for keeping old traditions alive.

500ml bottle, L3232, bought at EuroSpar Tomasjord. Shared with Richard. Amber coloured body with a shade of brown, clear. Slowly diminishing beige head. Earthy malty nose with a touch of floral hops. Taste of herbal spicy hops, thistle and ginger, joined by mid-sweet malts. Fruit bitter twist to the ending. Medium to thin bodied. A bit different and quite nice to drink (Easter gathering at our place, Tromsø 18.04.2014).

Dark amber color, small creamy beige head, some lace. Caramel, menthol and herbs. Average nutty malty flavor, thistle is very evident here, similar to ginger! Interesting "Christmas" ale, good? One time is enough.

Bottle: Clear, amber coloured, mid-sized, slowly collapsing lacy head, zoasted-malty nose with discreet hints of Golding hops; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, smooth MF; distinctive peppery bitterness in the finish. Pleasant stuff........

(bottle) Slightly unclear, reddish amber colour with a big and slightly beige foamy head, leaving lace work. Toasty malty aroma a fruity and slightly spicy (thistles?) hops. Moderately sweet and bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Toasty malt-character with notes of caramel and spicy and subtle fruity hops; dry, bitter and spicy hoppy finish and a slightly roasty aftertaste. Pleasant. 09.XI.07 & 20.IX.10

[500ml bottle, Appellation Wines, Edinburgh] Named after the herb it contains, the predominant flavour is of the other added ingredient - ginger. Light and refreshing, with some flowery notes - to be honest I have no idea what blessed thistle tastes like so I was struggling to pick it out. But it was drinkable even as a slightly spiced ginger ale [23042010]

Warning! Early amateur rating! Dark with a floral fruity tone plus a trace of smoke. Long bitter finish.
