3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 thewolf (8625) - Kolding, DENMARK - JAN 25, 2008
Bottle @ YNWA, Kolding. (@ Burns Night).
Pours a rather amber golden with a small creamy white head and super lacing. Aroma is pleasantly sweet, light caramel and British hops. Low carbonation, much lower than the others from the brewery. Flavour is initially doughy, dry, powerfully bitter. Well balanced with a terrific dry, bitter finish.

courtesy of Allen - slightly hazy golden blond colour with a firm and long lasting foam; gentle aroma of almonds with a touch of dust, light grapefruity tones; medium-bodied and with a creamy mouthfeel, slightly sweet and barely bitter; long almondy finish - charming
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 johndoughty (2946) - cheslyn hay, West Midlands, ENGLAND - FEB 5, 2004
I found myself liking this more than the Cairngorm dark beers.Light and easy taste lacking the burnt flavour of the dark beers. Not a great one
but the delicate flavour
makes it easy to sup on.
There are certainly a lot more quality beers coming out of Scotland these days.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Spiesy (2336) - Sydney, Greater London, AUSTRALIA - MAR 12, 2004
Bottled. Pale golden colour with a rapid rising, yet fine, head. Lacy and delicious looking. Chocolate malt aroma with a faint bitter structure. Chocolate malt flavour but with this colour it must something else. If anyone knows what malt tastes so clearly chocolate but doesn’t impart the colour of chocolate malt, would you please drop me a line. Cheers. G$
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 haddonsman (1234) - Derby, Derbyshire, ENGLAND - AUG 22, 2005
Handpulled at the Babington Arms 1st Golden Ales Festival (JDW) Derby. Raipd caramel, calms to an almost artifically sweet smack, golden indeed, smooth almost to the point of vanishing blandness. But still, in a gestalt gold sort of way, becomes more than the sum of meagre parts and ends up being a pleasant if underwhelming ale.

I'm not quite sure why Cairngorm makes two 4.5% gold beers (see also Sheepshaggers Gold - qv). Even the tasting notes on the brewery website say they are similar. And they are. Initially, this had a big perfumed hop hit on the aroma, with a hint of nettles in the background, but this soon settled down to reveal some sweet malt character that the Sheepshaggers had. And that came through on the palate, but underlined by a balancing acidity, that became a little harsh by the finish. The aftertaste remains sharp, but underlined by hints of a blended whisky type malt (definitely not a fine single). Overall, a little more assertive than the Sheepshaggers. Quite nice, but nothing exceptional. Bottled (500ml).
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Boystout (1000) - Chisinau, MOLDOVA - AUG 12, 2004
Was it lager or ale? Nothing extraordinary in aroma - sweetish malty with a shade of hops. Light malty flavour, some mineral notes, medium body. Good but forgettable.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 RichardGretton (3758) - Leicestershire, ENGLAND - MAR 5, 2007
Bottle. Golden beer with a strong foamy white head. The aroma is quite fruity and the flavour is smooth, fruity and quite thickly dry. Overall a nice beer.
