2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: MAY 2, 2013 Bottle from Matkroken Natland, Bergen. Pours a clear deep bronze-hued brown body with a small off-white head. Aroma is the oh-so-conventional caramel and burnt sugar tones, with hints of vanilla and grains. Taste is sweet grainy caramel tones with some nuts, biscuits and vanilla. Slightly bitter finish with burnt sugar tones. Light body, soft to medium carbonation. Decent enough, but dull as expected.

500ml bottle (Punavuoren Ahven, Helsinki)
Super malty aroma, and perhaps a bit yeasty. Dark roast in the taste. Palate is a littel watery, but not thin. Some yeastiness in the taste too. General feeling is that it’s a bit watery, but otherwise OK.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
500ml bottle: best before 28 May 2013. Poured into a UK pint sleeve at home on 30 Dec 2012.
The beer looked good: deep reddy brown body with a full biege head on top.
Malts all the way in this brew: semi-sweet and fairly mild roastiness wise is both the smell and taste. Some hints of peat smokiness try and sneak into the flavours along with dark chocolate and a hand full of mixed nuts (unsalted). Pleasant enough and although a ’tourist-beer’ it was OK.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
This beer really was the first that made me stand up and look at Caringorm Brewery, it really is one my favourite Scottish ales even though it isn’t as always easily sourced as some of their other brews. It pours a generous fluffy head with a pale ruby red/brown body. Nice smooth malt and oat aroma. Creamy taste, pretty smooth with bitter malty highlights... overall oat flavour prominent, a hearty sip gives a nice oak aftertaste! This is a great beer, quite moreish and so bloody drinkable!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
50cl bottle from Glen Moray distillery shop. Pours a very dark amber with a nice head. The nose has fruit cake and hints of ginger. The taste has fruit loaf which turns into ginger bread in the finish. The palate is medium bodied with a creamy texture and a clean and quite bitter finish. Overall, a well made ale.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
500ml bottle pours a pale amber color with a 2 finger white head that retains well and eventually reveals a spotty lace on the glass. Aroma is caramel malts and pleasant flowery hops. Taste is caramel malty sweetness with some toasted cereal grains and a prominant hoppy bitterness in the finish. Full flavored with a medium body and adequate carbonation. Nice English bitter and recommended for any bitter lovers out there.
