COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pasteurised bottle.
A pleasant mahogany coloured best bitter, malt predominating, gives a satisfying fullness of flavour. A glass or two of "Nessie’s Monster Mash" is a must before seeking an audience with the monster. The legendary monster is a source of constant speculation and rumour as he watches from his lair deep in the dark and mysterious depths of majestic Loch Ness.

Bottle bought at Kensington Wine Market here in Calgary. Dark in colour and balanced towards malt and not very hoppy for a bitter. Page 457 of Michael Jackson’s Great Beer Guide and only 237 of his 500 Classic Brews to go.

This beer really was the first that made me stand up and look at Caringorm Brewery, it really is one my favourite Scottish ales even though it isn’t as always easily sourced as some of their other brews. It pours a generous fluffy head with a pale ruby red/brown body. Nice smooth malt and oat aroma. Creamy taste, pretty smooth with bitter malty highlights... overall oat flavour prominent, a hearty sip gives a nice oak aftertaste! This is a great beer, quite moreish and so bloody drinkable!

A beer with a nice dark colour and good looking foam. I was not too carzy about the taste of it though. It seemed to lack a little in the finnish and it did not have the full body that one could hope to find in a good ale. While it was not a bad beer I would prefer to drink the porter from the same brewery.

50cl bottle, label as shown. Pours a clear hazelnut brown with a medium-sized light beige head. Good retention, decent lacing. Aroma of ripe plums, toffee and bready malt. Medium-bodied bitter with a solid, smooth mouth feel. Very moderate carbonation. Velvety and comforting. :=) Characterful flavour of caramel, roasted malt and some barnyard notes. Bitterness increases towards the finish. Moderately bitter, lingering after taste. A smooth and satisfying bitter, more complex and rewarding than many. Down the hatch - next one, please!

Dark brown colored bitter. Dominant roasted malt with caramel. Smokey feel. Dry and sweet aftertaste. Low in carbonation.

500ml bottle from the brewery shop. Frothy off white nose, good lacing. Body is a gorgeous dark amber with a hint of ruby. Nose is sweet and nutty. Flavour is more of the same, a little bitterness on the finish but it doesn't last long. Mouthfeel is a little thin, medium carbonation. Decent but lacks the depth of some of the other Cairngorm brews. ---Rated via Beer Buddy

I have the same problem with this beer as I do Stag, it’s not available anywhere except from the brewery direct. A gorgeous dark brown ale with an off white head. The taste is dominated by roasted malts and caramel, very similar to stag, except this has an added hint of smokiness to improve the flavour. Great for any lover of dark Scottish ales.
