COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pasteurised bottle.
A pleasant mahogany coloured best bitter, malt predominating, gives a satisfying fullness of flavour. A glass or two of "Nessie’s Monster Mash" is a must before seeking an audience with the monster. The legendary monster is a source of constant speculation and rumour as he watches from his lair deep in the dark and mysterious depths of majestic Loch Ness.

Orangebrun klar i fargen med beige skum. Karamell, melkesjokolade og malt. Søt og bitter brent karamell i smaken. Fruktig. Kort ettersmak, frisk munnfølelse.

ALLOVATE (2406) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - AUG 6, 2006
Notes are vague on this one. Tried it from the bottle and on cask at the same café in Inverness (rare, but a bonus!). Pours a sparkling, ruby chestnut with light carbonation and adorned by a thin white pad that held on tight. There is a little heather and kelp underlying its soft, woody malt and burnt toffee nose. It’s prickly in the mouth, possibly a bit too charged but this was all sorted out after a few quick swirls of the glass. A lingering puff of peat smoke joins some rough, woody and roasted malts on the palate. Sharp, raspy-bitter hops come in on the very brink of swallowing and it finishes off woody and dry. It’s a little all over the place but agreeable enough to quash the thirst. Not bad, but better from the cask. (50cL, 28/05/07, on the riverside, Inverness, Scotland)

Bottled. Ruby amber in colour. Minor beige head. there is a malty and rich aroma with ints of caramel. The flavour is burnt malty with a sweet caramel like taste. There is a sweet and dry aftertaste. Thanks to tbone_ for this one.

Bottle at the Sconser Lodge- Pours Mahagony pours mahagony brown with large frothy head. nose is toast, orange peel, toffee, butter, taste is very light berries, yogurt, and toasty crisp dry finish. nothing exciting.

Ruby amber colour with a beige head. Malty aroma with roasted malt. Flavour is roasted malts with sweet caramel. The roastiness is pretty deep down below. Well balanced bitter indeed.

Appearance: Dark redish brown. Little bit of off-white head. Aroma: Malt and dark fruit. Maybe some coffee. Taste: Nice malt and a bit burnt/smokey. Coffee? Info: 500ml bottle, 1/8-2007, 180/500

I’d had this when I was in Scotland several years ago and found it far too bitter for my taste; when I heard me friend Justin was headed up there I warned him against it. So what did he do? He bought me back a bottle and forced me to drink it when I was around his place (cheers Jus!). Still, at least I can now rate it. Pours a deep red/brown with a beige soap-sud head. Smell and initial taste is of rich sweet malt. Develops into sweet, sticky treacle and sour plums - at this point I was quite enjoying it. However, it’s the aftertaste that gets you - a cloying sticky mouthfeel with a far-too-bitter earthiness, that lingers unpleasantly for ages. Better than I remember, but not one I’d come back to again.
