Light orange floral character and whiff of daffodils and apricot.
Appearance: Gold, good beading, white head
Flavour: Firm herbal, minty and forest floor hop flavour giving away to sweet pale malt and caramel finish.
Palate: moderate bitterness, finishes sweet and bitter.
Overall: one dimensional. feels too flabby to enjoy as a session beer.
TheGrandMaster (1388), Auckland, New Zealand Mar 10, 2008 Bottle (from NZ wine store), pours a silty gold with a frothy white head. A juicy malt aroma with a touch of toffee and fruity hops. A very buttery palate, with caramal malt and an increasing bitterness in the finish. Yalnikim’s right, past its best. yalnikim (623), Wellington, New Zealand Mar 2, 2008 Tasted 02/03/2008. 500ml bottle from Scenic Cellars in Taupo, courtesy for ratebeer’s latest (possibly first?) ironman ’TheGrandmaster’ (a bit of sheepshagger himself). Pours a brilliant pale gold with a diminishing white head. A little herbal hop, stewed fruit, honey and caramel malt on the nose. More sweet caramel malts dominate the mouth, with zesty lemon and herbal notes in hop flavour. Low to medium bitterness. Medium-low carbonation. Good weight. Lacks vitality. Past its best but still reasonably drinkable.
