First tasted this way back at the Paisley Beer Festival in March 1994. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear garnet red in colour with a thin white head. Slight hint of caramel in the short aroma. Thin but milky mouthfeel and good lacing. Mixed malts give a sweet maltloaf flavour with syrupy raisins, black grapes and buttery toffee. Slight hop prickle evident in the short aftertaste. Finish is robust and malty with sweet vinous fruit and oak cask coming through. A decent session bitter.
