Sample tasting at the brewery: Pours dark and thick with a tan head, slick on the glass. Aroma of sour malts and yeast. Good hop balance. Slight alcohol burn with bitter and roasted chocolate malts dominating. Slight burn but smooth finish. Pretty good for the style with dark roasted and chocolate malts dominating.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nose is full of chocolate and cocoa. Dark roast, sweet dark malts and a hint of butter. Pours black with a giant tan head. Lots of sweet dark malts, chocolate, dark fruit, cocoa powdery flavors, roast is there as well. Big full body, soft alcohol with mild bitterness. I found this to be towards the sweet side of impy stouts.

On tap at the brewery. While I was a bit disapointed in their year-round menu I have to say their seasonals were excellent. This imperial stout was a gem to be found. So many flavors blend well, almost making it a game to pick out flavors as you go. Hints of port, raisin, burnt chocolate, cocoa, and vanilla. Very smooth on the palate. Just a very well built beer for a cool fall day.
