COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Esta espumosa cerveza de alta fermentación obtiene un sutil gusto acaramelado gracias al uso de maltas especiales tostadas tipo caramelo. Esto le da a la cerveza un tenue paladar de pasas, galletas y caramelos. Balanceado con el amargor de los aromáticos lúpulos tipo Saaz de la República Checa, obtenemos una bien balanceada y versátil cerveza. Siguiendo antiguas tradiciones Belgas, una pequeña adición de azúcar cande oscura se usa para darle a la cerveza un toque ligero al paladar a pesar de su fuerza. Esta cerveza la hacemos todo el año y nos parece ideal para acompañar platillos fuertes de corte europeo, especialmente carnes, gravy, papas, estofados y algunos quesos ligeros como el brie, tetilla, Tomme de Savoie y Port Salut. También hace buena pareja con algunos postres elaborados con chocolate amargo y caramelo. Nada como una dubbel de abadía en la Gran Plaza de Brusselas cuando iluminan la fachada del ayuntamiento.

average frothy offwhite head. fair lacing. fully diminishing. flat thick dark amberish-brown body. aroma: heavy nutty malt, caramel, dried fruits. if: moderate sweet. ff: moderate sweet light bitter; long duration. palate: medium body, oily texture, lively carbonation, chalky finish. Dulçor maltado e caramelado, lembrando as dubbel belga, somente menos alcoolica. Leve chocolate meio amargo no paladar. Grata surpresa, ainda mais a 10 dias do vencimento. 140 s

Bottle. Pours a clear brown-red with a white head that fades. Malty aroma, sweet and a little toasty, of brown sugar, dark fruits, yeast, citrus. Taste is a bit watery, of sweet malt, dark fruits, juice, yeast. Lingering watery sweetness. Not bad.

Bottle, 355ml. A mahogany beer with a small creamy head that fades away almost inmediatly. It has a floral aroma with a lot of alcohol. Taste reminds me of cider, but not in a pleasant way. It is too sour and there is something else going on, but I don´t want to keep drinking this beer to find out. It is completely off balance and becomes almost undrinkable. Between this and a macro, I would choose neither. The first beer I pour down the drain!

Bottle, 355ml. Pours a deep copper colour with a thick brown head that fades quickly. Strong roasted and alcohol aroma. Sour, but not in a pleasant way (and I love sour ales). I’d say infected but I know better. This sourness is prevalent in most Calavera brews, but this is the first time I had a problem with it. If I had to describe the aftertaste with one flavor, it would be dog feces. Not a good beer, and down the drain it goes.

Bottle @ Delerium Cafe in Rio de Janeiro. We learned upon ordering that it was 2-for-1, so we had to drink two of these (thankfully there were 6 of us). Very cloudy amber brown with a small golden head. Extremely sticky sweet, dates and demarera sugar, not much yeast character. Too simple, too sweet.

A reddish copper ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity malt with light grassy hops, light acidity, not bad. In mouth, a sweet lightly sour ale with dark fruits, faint hops, OK.

Bottled. Hazy copper colour, small head. Caramel and marzipan up front. Mid sweet with above medium body and rounded mouthfeel.Caramelly and rather sticky with notes of lingonberry. Figs and liqueur dominate a finish with low bitterness. Too sticky.

Bottle at omhper’s tasting 130817. Hazy copper/orange beer with a small beige/yellowish head. Malty fruity aroma, caramel, yeasty, citrus, peach, pear, hay notes, some spices. Malty fruity flavor, hazelnuts, yeasty, fruity, hay, caramel, biscuits, sweetish, some peach. Not a typical dubbel.

Bottle: From all Calaveras this one is the better (not best) I’ve tried. Malty, bready some Belgian ale resemblance. Food Pairing: soft cheese.
