3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Blairgus (1028) - California, USA - FEB 9, 2012
9 feb 2012, bottle. Orange with pink tint, clear, no bubbles. Great orange pulp and sweet grapefruit hops, some sawdust, alcohol, and oatmeal. Med body and a bit fizzy. Sweet grapefruit and caramel. Hops are grassy and a twinge butter. Really tastes like a sweet, amber version of their Pale ale

In can at home. Pours a beautiful amber colour with a thick off-white head. Lovely hoppy aroma of pineapple, mango, yeast and caramel. Similar flavours with a chewy caramel malt backbone. Peppery, resinous finish. Really tasty with moderate carbonation and CO2 prickle.

More pale than amber, medium bodied ale. Citrus hops are present, but not over powering. Ashland Amber works as a canned beer, and is tailgate worthy.

I’m not usually an enthusiast of drinking canned beer. I’ll do it if there is no other option, but by and large if I can’t have it in a pint from a bar, I’ll go for bottles. This is me seriously branching out.
Good amber colour with a white head with hoppy green tinges. It smelt initially of pineapple coming out of the can. On closer nasal inspection, spruce and hops initially and then a good dose of malt.Flavours are cool and then good mouthfeel and a developing blood orange tinge of hoppy bitterness. It lingers tangily on the sides of the tongue and sits, enduring on my tongue. For all the trepidation of the whole can thing, not bloody bad.

From can. Beautiful golden pour with a thin white head. Aroma is wheat, polished wood, hints of citrus hops. Flavour is sweet, again, malty wheat and barley, plenty of crystal malt here. Dangerously drinkable, generally a very tasty brew.

Can from Cherry Hill Wine & Liquors. Clear amber pour supporting a thin light tan head. Very little lacing. Biscuity aroma with a little citrus. Crisp, malt-forward flavor. Medium silky texture with a bit of hop bitterness in the finish.

An orange color with a white head. Aroma contains some citrus and floral notes. Flavor is somewhat bitter with some oranges and a caramel presence. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. Overall a good session beer.

Can: Amber in color, large frothy off-white head, fairly sticky lacing, light carbonation.   Malty nose, seems fairly earthy and soily.   Reminds me of their IPA but without the hop nose.   Malty on the tongue, smooth, mild sweetness, hints of soil and earth.   Moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   Seems pretty smooth.   The soil and earth detract from this beer, at least to me.   Otherwise, the malt sweetness and low hop aspect are key.   Fairly clean finish, despite the earthy start.   Pretty tasty otherwise.
