LtDan (471), LA - Originally from South NJ!, California, USA Oct 9, 2009 Appearance: Pours an bright amber gold with a 1/4 inch of sudsy head. Leaves tons of lacing on the glass.
Aroma: Huge amounts of grapefruit, orange, floral scents, a touch of pine and sweet malt.
Taste: Juicy grapefruit, fresh squeezed orange juice, pine, sweet and spicy malt. Ends with a big bitter hops presence.
Mouthfeel: Juicy and medium bodied.
Overall: I was quite pleased with this beer. It has everything I want in an IPA. awiseman01 (318), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA Oct 5, 2009 Can from OTM in Point Loma. Pours slight cloudy golden/orange with 1/2" foamy white head. Nose is delicious tangerine, citrus and passion fruit hops...one of the more inviting aromas I can recall on an IPA. Flavor is pretty much in line with the nose, decent amount of hops and a nice blend of carbonation. Finish is a little dry and earthy, a little unpleasant compared to the nose and initial taste. Overall very good IPA. DalzAle (476), Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA Oct 1, 2009 Can from Scrizzz (Thanks!) Light pumpkin orange pour, plenty of carbonation and a good strong syrupy hops aroma. Flavor is solid, bitter hops, lemon/grapefruit with a very strong and floral finish. My 1st Caldera brew, and I can’t wait to try more! cgarvieuk (4159), Edinburgh, Scotland Oct 1, 2009 Can at home ... copper ... big buubly white head ... light sweet pine hop nose ... odd musty grassy hop ... bitter linger ... some citrus JPDIPSO (4865), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Sep 30, 2009 LIght amber color with a smallish, slightly creamy, light ecru head. Aromas of grapefruit and wet grass. Start has a bit of caramel and is quickly followed by dry grain, citrus and grass. Just a hint of fruit. A decent IPA. Heathen (723), Riverside, New Jersey, USA Sep 28, 2009 THOUGHTS: Rather well balanced. Easy to drink. Nice.
TECHNICAL: Can. Poured a clear, dark, slightly brown, orange with an average to large, off-white head that mostly diminished, but left excellent lacing. The aroma was light to moderate caramel malt, grapefruit, more orange and less resinous hops that increased as it warmed. A slight funk too when it was warmer. The initial flavor was sweet, lightly acidic and bitter; while the finish was lightly sweet and rather bitter with an average to long duration. There was caramel malt, orange and grapefruit, leaning more to orange, piney and resinous hops. The medium body was sort of oily, then dry with fizzy carbonation and a a dry, slightly metallic, and light to moderately astringent finish. Elwood (676), Leesburg, Virginia, USA Sep 22, 2009 Serving: 12 oz. can.
Appearance: Deep gold with a touch of amber. Foamy, off-white head. Good head retention and lacing. There may be hope in this one.
Aroma: Lighter nose than I was hoping for. Pine hops, soap, and a hint of citrus.
Taste: Big, resinous pine hop flavor with notes of soap, honey, and earth. Tastes as though it was dry hopped. Unfortunately I’ve been down this road before and there isn’t much new offered by this brew.
Palate: Medium-high carbonation with a medium body and a long bitter finish. A bit of unwelcome soapiness lingers on my tongue.
Overall: Welcome to another tongue lashing IPA! Okay, but it doesn’t hold a candle to a Two Hearted or a Nugget Nectar. harrisoni (6704), Ashford, Kent, England Sep 19, 2009 33cl can big thaks to Reakt for this one, cheers Ang. Lovely Centennial aroma. Some toffee and a lot of sweet crystal malt. The problem is that there is not enough malt balance and character to carry the hop aroma and though there is bitter ness on the end, it’s a harsh bitterness rather than a more rounded finish. Still for an IPA in a can its pretty good. Some toastiness throughout.
