Pours a clean orange color, with a big, bubbly head, which stays around for minutes. Smells of a leafy dankness, amped up by juicy orange and biscuity malts. Develops a pleasant lemon note, which sets itself on top of the flavor foundation of the beer. Exhibits a medium carbonation with a very creamy mouthfeel, leading to a distinct bitterness, wrapped up by cakey malts, still resulting in a very refreshing, easy drinking beer. Tastes of dough bread with a whiff of earth, completed by zappy lemon peel. The flavors develop a nice sweetness right before the swallow, resulting in a luscious grapefruit and orange savor, balanced by now pungent lemons. Reveals a short period of an aqueous quality during the finish, soon joined by lemon infused grass, which creates a very long lasting bitterness on the tongue. While its beginning is almost similar to the Caldera Pale Ale, this beer creates a more distinct hop bite towards its finish, which evokes a nice depth of flavors, as the malts now have found a worthy antagonist. It reverses basically the roles, now the malts accentuate the hops, while it was the other way round in the APA version. Nontheless, malts put up a good fight, lending a lot of character to the beer, creating a challenging, hop defined beer, which is composed in a very intriguing and clean way.
