3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 greig (253) - Hamilton, NEW ZEALAND - JUN 3, 2011
A decent enough US IPA, but lacking in body. Unusual given the description talks of "plenty of body", but of the OG really is 1.057, the FG would be around 1.010, and while FG doesn’t always relate to body, this is a fairly thin beer. Anyway, ignoring that, it looks and smells great, and I could imagine drinking a fair few of these.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 RedSox2004 (804) - Pacific Palisades, California, USA - JUN 3, 2011
Copper/orange with a bubbly off-white head and decent lace. Mild citrus hops aromas offset by biscuity malts and black tea. Malty sweetness, almost like cookie dough, with a gentle hops bitterness that appears then quickly goes away. Medium body, chewy mouthfeel, and a lingering malt sweetness.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 SDalkoholic (1536) - Chula Vista, California, USA - JUN 3, 2011
Aluminum can from BevMo: Created a thick fluffy topping of foamed head while the liquid was a golden honey color. Surprisingly, the aroma is dominated with floral hops that suggest citrus fruits such as grapefruit or orange with just a touch of grained wheat like malts. As for the flavor, there is a bold taste of bitter hops that taste earthy with notes of honey, pollen, pine, lime, grapefruit, and perhaps orange. Definitely a tasty IPA from an aluminum can of all sources.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 daknole (5854) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - MAY 23, 2011
Nice light amber pour. Aroma is loaded with resin, grapefruit peel, caramel, honey, unripe stone fruit. Flavor follows suit. A nice hop bite. Really a nice combination of hops and just enough malt sweetness to keep this one really drinkable.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Nephilium (951) - Ohio, USA - MAY 15, 2011
This starts with a caramel aroma, with just a touch of hops. Pours a clear reddish-amber, with a full white head. The flavor is a nice strong blast of hops, with a moderately long finish. Nice and easy drinking, a very nice IPA from a can.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 bluejacket74 (716) - Reynoldsburg, Ohio, USA - MAY 14, 2011
12 ounce can. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours a hazy amber color with about an inch off-white head. Head retention is pretty good, and there is a lot of lacing left behind on the glass. Aroma is herbal and citrusy hops, along with a bit of sweet malt. Taste is similar to the aroma, it’s mostly hops with some sweet malt noticable too. There’s also a nice lingering bitter hoppy finish. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s slick with moderate carbonation. It’s easy enough to drink. I think it’s a good solid IPA. I’d buy this one again in the future.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 eclaycamp (189) - , Kansas, USA - MAY 5, 2011
Thank you Rate Beer Mobile. Color is a light amber, new penny copper. Zesty hop aroma promises some big IPA flavors. After some disappointing beers last night things are looking up. Pretty cloudy for an IPA. First taste delivers punchy hop bitterness while malt sweetness coats the tongue. IPAs as a rule are never balanced but I like the caramel malt backbone this offers. The best beer I’ve had on this trip, by far.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 vacantskies (208) - Spokane, Washington, USA - MAY 4, 2011
Nice woody flavor with a light copper aftertaste. Dfrinkable ipa out of the can.
3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 esjaygee (2599) - Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 1, 2011
Light hazy amber with a medium off-white fluffy head. Aroma of sticky resinous hops, floral hops, sweet malt and a hint of sulfur. Taste comes across too vegetal with floral hops, resinous, sulfur and malt. Medium bitter finish that’s a touch dry. Okay, but a bit too "stalky" for my liking.
3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 oobawa (588) - South Carolina, USA - APR 23, 2011
UPDATED: DEC 26, 2011 Whoa. Serious IPA within these aluminum walls. The malts are very grainy and hold a touch of earthiness, but the huge herbal hops obliterate any resistance you may hold against drinking more of this beer. Caldera IPA is a deliciously bitter IBU fix, piney with hints of citrus, unloading scores of hop resin onto your palate. The graininess becomes a pleasant, almost nutty background as your tastebuds succumb to the hoppy assault, and the beer finishes with a dry swipe, yet still harbors a minimal malt sweetness. Tasty and pretty enough to cause boners in Beer Geeks.
