This beer gets its name from the Hopunion Hop Hash nuggets - pure hop lupulin extracted and scraped from the Hopunion pelletizing line, then boiled for 90 minutes in the kettle. According to the brewer, this has never been done before! Premium 2-row, Great Western Munich, Crisp 60L and rolled oats comprise the grain bill designed to carry this load. Fermented warm using American Ale yeast to bring out the fruitiness, the resulting beer is designed to be a surprise on all fronts. Even the brewer has no idea how hoppy it’ll be.

Thank you Martinus! Bottle sampled @ Borefts 2014. Creamy orange, thick pine resin hops & solid biscuit-like malt base, plenty of malts, toffee. Okay but too much malts.

Bottle from de Molen, large sample, served in a trappist glass. Clear golden to orange color, short frothy head. Aroma is hoppy, grapefruit, bit pine, citrus, quite malty as well from biscuit and cookie, some caramel. Soft to medium bitter in taste, bit malty. Easy going american IPA.

Bottle at Craft Cafe Imazato shared by my buddy Mick. A lovely copper pour with a slight white head of foam. It has a solid hop bouquet with a well balanced flavor profile. It didn’t really stand out but was enjoyable enough.

Bottle from Joe’s. Clear copper with head and lace. Spicy hop aroma with hints of caramel and bread. Lots of toasted caramel and nuts some fruit in medium sweetness with assertive piney spicy lingering hop bitterness accentuated by aggressive carbo. medium body. Heavy on the toasty malts. Surprised the wife enjoyed it. This is for people who like "well-balanced" IPAs. I am not necessarily one of them, (I like ’em high and dry) but it’s good.

Deep amber beer, big pale cream colour head. Palate is airy and crisp, semi dry. Mild minerals. Malts provide mild sweetness to balance the bitter hops. Mild caramel and very mild cream. Noble tasting hops, big floral bitterness with a touch of grassy harshness. Trace of citrus. Crispy dry finish, mild citric linger. Mmmmm - comes over like an Imperial English Bitter. Tasty but a bitter bastard.

UPDATED: AUG 31, 2014 On tap at Caldera brewery in Ashland, OR. Aroma was initially dishwater-like, but then quickly turned to pungent hoppiness. Stingingly bitter taste made the mouthfeel hard to discern. Taste was too bitter, though I could tell that there was a decent malt backbone somewhere in there. I kind of made it sound bad, but it was a decent IPA. I do prefer the sweetness of a DIPA though.

Had this at the restaurant in Ashland. The aroma had a dank smell to it at first, but the first sip wiped all that away! Taste was hoppy, sharp and in your face. Just how an IPA should be!
