COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer gets its name from the Hopunion Hop Hash nuggets - pure hop lupulin extracted and scraped from the Hopunion pelletizing line, then boiled for 90 minutes in the kettle. According to the brewer, this has never been done before! Premium 2-row, Great Western Munich, Crisp 60L and rolled oats comprise the grain bill designed to carry this load. Fermented warm using American Ale yeast to bring out the fruitiness, the resulting beer is designed to be a surprise on all fronts. Even the brewer has no idea how hoppy it’ll be.

22oz bottle $4.99 and marked at 6.5% ABV. Copper color, decent head, smells boring. Slight bit of hops and malt, really underwhelming. The taste was a step up, decent bitterness, hops, chewy malt and a thickness that is good. Definitely feels more like a string pale ale rather than an IPA. Not bad at all. Deep robust amber, bronze and copper coloured body with a hint of brown and a thick, five centimetre tall tan head - beautiful! Aroma of fresh hops, earth, malt, apples, pears and a touch of metal - not so much hops though. Medium-bodied; Strong malty flavour with a hint of alcohol, some light fruitiness with a lot of caramel and toffee sweetness and a hint of earthy and herbal hops - not much at all though. Overall, a decent beer - more malt than hops and showing some good complexity from fruit and sugars more than hops. Nice to try, but not as good as I had hoped bringing it back home. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Belmont Station in Portland, Oregon on 12-April-2013 for US$4.15 sampled at home on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 15-June-2013.

Smells hoppy, floral and a little yeasty. Looks amber, dark amber.Thin white head. Hoppy as fuck with a bit of barnyard tart feel. Heavy heavy. Good but hea-vy.

Bottle. Pours amber, smells like an amber, and tastes like an amber. Not impressed for it’s style. There is a slight hop bite, but really this doesn’t represent a west coast ipa.

Bit of a gusher. When it finally calms down, it pours golden copper, with a nice sizey white head. Big citrusy aroma, with a bit of honey and caramel Flavor is hop forward, which is to be expected. Dry, woody finish.

22 oz bomber thanks to Matt: Pours a nice golden yellow with a good white head. Aroma of grapefruit and other citrus hops. Nice mellow IPA with a good bitter finish. Nice dry aftertaste of grapefruit that lingers. This one is a palate wrecker though as the flavor really lasts after you are finished drinking. Good example of a West Coast IPA but could be just a bit more sprucy and sweet for my preferences.

22. Pours a crystal clear rubied medium amber with a gigantic dense and surging pillowy, sudsy platinum blonde head. Tons of fish-eye lace. Very showy. Nice crisp caramel and soft orange peel nose. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Caramel, toast, nuts, orange peel, and tangerines on the mid palate. Long crisp acetic pithy grapefruit peel finish.

22 ounce bottle purchased at The Davis Beer Shoppe. No clue how old or new this is, but they just got it in. Light resiny piney hop aromas are present, but the nose is dominated by a husky, woody, papery maltiness. Not so sure about the aroma on this. Unfiltered, moderately hazy ruddy-copper body with a strong, off-white head. Starts with a bit or a stale, papery, cardboardy flavoring, before this becomes pretty dry, bitter, and astringent towards the finish. Light soapiness in the middle. Not really balanced, and not the best experiment I have ever tried. Meh.
