3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours a dark dark brown. Head is tan and dense. Aroma of spicy licorice, coffee grinds, chocolate malt, smoked dark fruit. Taste is very boozey with chocolate, bitter hops present. Decent stout from Caldera. I think this beer would be perfect if laid down for a year or two. Might take away the hotness of the alchohol. Worth trying though.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle: † Black, large frothy light brown head, fairly nice lacing. † Old growth is right, piney aroma, soft graham cracker and roasted malts. † Even tho is been a year, or more... I still get some alcohol on the nose. † On the tongue its malty, definite warming, graham cracker, with some green raisin and acrid roastiness as well as a smidgen of coffee grinds. † My bottle indicates its 8.8%... Hmmm... † Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full. † Finishes a little dry, some cocoa, amidst the pine (tree like), roasted malts, acrid coffee grinds, and graham cracker. † Pretty solid, and certianly hefty.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from DBS. Aroma is medium roast coffee, licorice, and bitter chocolate. Flavor is a muted version of the aroma with some roastiness present. Palate was excellent, but it lacked something for me...couldn't put my finger on it. Very good beer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce bottle purchased at The Davis Beer Shoppe. The aroma on this has a lot of sweet, milk chocolate character, which gives way to a really rich coffee aroma. Very mocha-like. Scant metallic/herbal hop character is also present. This beer is quite quaffable. Opaque black body with a creamy, thick medium brown head present, and great lacing. Gorgeous brew. Starts with some thick, chewy chocolate maltiness, before this becomes quite roasted in the middle. Lots of coffee-like character is present, despite the absence of coffee. Finishes a little astringent, and slightly burnt. Perhaps some hop presence is contributing. A little thin-bodied. Still, a fairly enjoyable brew.

Bottle. Pours with a nearly black body with a large tan head. Aromas are of roast, lactose, nutty, milk chocolate, esters, alcohol fumes, raisins, dates, odd phenol, leather, milk chocolate, cereal, caramel, nougat and dark fruit. Flavors are dry and bitter with a slightly lactic acid edge. Milk chocolate, leather, red currants, dark fruit (at the time I was rating this, I didnít know about the adjuncts, and thought it might be a mild infection...I guess not). Fudge, earth, pepper, raisins, mild metallic. Somewhat chalky. Mineral, butter. Low carbonation with a full body.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Served from a 22 oz bottle from Barronís. The appearance is a ruby edged black without much head. The aromas are chocolate and other dark malts, a bit of a wooden tone to it. Some dark dried fruits as well. The flavors are well roasted malts, dark malts, black licorice, peppercorn, and dark dried fruits. A nice full mouth with a dense carbonation. Very nice brew. Nice flavor profile. Well worth a try.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 oz. from Chucks, $10.49. I was a bit skeptical considering the price, but this is a great beer. Smells like pine trees (or is that because of the tree on the front)? Tastes robust and big and hearty yet smooth with a hot cocoa aftertaste. Pleasantly surprised.

Bottle bac from best way. Not as complex as the big boys but still an entertaining drink. Molasses and soy sauce followed by a light bitter finish and some alcohol bite. Roasts malt candi sugar and full bodied sweetness. Aroma has some fruit and is a little faint.
