After reading JBís rating I had to pull mine out of the cellar. Pours black with a brown head. Aroma of dark roasted malt and a hint of licorice. Full bodied with average carbonation, and with a slick texture. Flavor of dark roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, and just a very very small hint of licorice.

Bottle from Nathanielís. Pour is great looking for an IS, dark dark tan head, reddish. Thick head, leaves spotty lacing. Nose is anise, oak, leather. Taste is tootsie roll, licorice, and mocha. This stuff is amazing. 10.3 alcohol, really??? May be my highest score to date. (My bottle says 8.8 % !!)

Insanely good. Deep brown pour with perfect tan head. Chocolate and vanilla aroma is light but perfectly balanced. Taste is mix of chocolate, coffee, roast malt and a little vanilla. Slight alcohol burn and bitter finish

My bottle [660ml] shared with jercraigs & mabel -- c/o Glouglouburp. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a small diminishing frothy tan head. Aroma: You definitely smell the barrel-ageing but itís nice, itís not too much, along with roasted malt, some alcohol, dark fruit and leafy hops. Flavour of roasted malt, chocolate, alcohol and dark fruit. This is smooth and goes down easy. Medium bodied, almost creamy mouthfeel. I quite liked this.

2013-08-23. Black body with a small foamy tan head. 3++ Aroma is pleasant, sweet dark malt, interesting cocoa touches, Hershey syrup with notes of licorice. Flavour is similar, syrupy chocolate syrup character, sweet dark malt. Smooth average plus to medium bodied palate, modest carbonation. Interesting but not loving it. Just okay. 22oz bottle. Small beige head atop black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, roast, some milk chocolate, earthy/grapefruit, light alcohol, ash. Taste is moderately sweet, roast, some earthy, bittersweet chocolate. Medium body, some stickiness, low carbonation.

Very nice, very solid -- and quite unusual. The base stout is just good: nicely flavored, balanced, solid, but nothing at the end of the day to write home about. BUT, but, but -- the licorice makes this beer. Surprised others haven't tried this combo before, because it works. A fun, surprisingly not sweet, dessert beer if you will B+ ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22 oz. bottle via trade. Canít remember who sent it to me, which means itís been in the rot box too long. 2010 vintage, per my cellar list. Pours a nice-looking deep brown, nearly opaque, with a finger of tan head that takes a while to settle. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, and licorice. I donít get any licorice in the flavor, which starts with earth, nuts, and bitter dark chocolate and transitions into a long coffee finish. Medium-bodied, a little thinned from the time, with moderate carbonation and a roasty mouthfeel. Good imperial stout, probably better if I didnít drink so much other stuff I had lying around first.

17 may 2013, bottle. Molasses brown. Nose is faint barley wine hints: some crayon, dry raisins, faint molasses. Full body and moderately fizzy. Burnt molasses, crayons, toasted granola, moderate alcohol. Pretty good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
