22oz bottle thanks to EgadsBananas, appreciate it. Typical color for an imperial stout but the head was really nice looking, chocolate brown and huge in the snifter. Aroma was good, roasty imperial stout, a little oily with hints of chocolate and malt. The flavor was pretty typical for the style and solid. Alcohol was well hidden and my only complaint was that it seemed just a tad bit thin but that also made it go down fast! I liked it, this was probably the best Caldera beer I’ve had. Bomber to shaker glass, thank you MissAliceDonut. Pours 99% blackout black with a dense tan foamy 2 finger head that never completely subsides, excellent dark sticky lacing as it goes down. Nose is light roast, light coffee, sweet licorice, good and plentys. The taste follows along the same lines, excellent mouthfeel, very silky while being full like an imperial stout should. Bits of dark chocolate play with the licorice in a nice way, finish is long and continued smoothness, the roast level is just right. This is a well put together imperial stout, sometimes brewers licorice can be overwhelming, but for this beer it is added perfectly. Top notch brew, will seek out more offerings from this brewery and this beer particular... Hit me up if you want to trade for some Michigan goods. Cheers!

In short: An intense, roasted, cacao-ized and very bitter big black stout. Tasty and excellent.
How: Bottle 22oz, a few times, not too sure about the age of this one, tasted fresh.
The look: Black body topped by a medium tan head with medium retention.
In long: The intense nose is bursting with cocoa, roast, black coffee, hop pellet. Taste is bold and without subtlety, charred malts, a lot of cocoa, burnt toasts, bitter black coffee, some vanilla, hop pellet. Very bitter finish where you don’t know what comes from bitter flavors (bitter chocolate, bitter coffee) and what comes from hops bitterness. The bitter finish washes away all the initial sweetness sensation. Full body with nice medium carbonation helping drinkability. I once again went through a full bomber as if it was a session stout. This is clearly a superior Imperial Stout for those who like the truly bold-American take on the style. I really loved that beer, I probably picked the right moment to open it, sometimes I fell like I’ve spent as much time in front of my cellar wondering what beer to open next as I have trying to figure out if my celling fan is slowing down or speeding up after I pulled the chain.

Deep dark chocolate brown with two fingers of well-sustained, dense and sticky mocha colored foam. It smells boozy, a bit like bourbon, also huge notes of coffee and caramel. The flavor is a massive dose of bittersweet mocha. I taste just a touch of licorice, adding some brightness without an overly medicinal quality. Full-flavored, thick and stout mouthfeel, but finishes with an almost powdery quality. It’s a delicious and bold imp stout.

Bottle. Dark maroon brown color. Aroma of dark cocoa, espresso, anise. Taste is Tootsie Roll, licorice. This is the first time I’ve used the word Tootsie in a beer rating.

Picked this up at the tap house in Ashland. It came in a quart jar filled from the tap. I drank it the next day. Minimal head on a clearer brown body. It’s a light color for a stout. It smells like oak and caramel. Rich. The taste is oaky and sweet with a touch of bitterness at the end. Smooth texture with minimal carbonation and a medium body. Pretty good and very drinkable for an imperial stout.

Tasted at the Annual Black Friday tasting. It pours a nice darkness with a mocha colored head of foam floating above. The aroma offers up dark roasted malts, some burnt malts, a sliver of toffee, malts balls and then a highly toasted bread sort of note. The taste is both lively and firm with dark roasted malts, almost burnt maltiness, some sweet toffee and dark toasted bread. Yummy stuff.
