4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Had this one for almost a year now, picked it up at the brewery on a road-trip. The nose is one of the best chocolate aromas around, Southern Tiery almost with a little touch of booziness underneath. In the mouth it is rich and heavy wth a beautiful chocolate/vanilla flavor mingled with robust roast malts and hints of coffee. I am really impressed by this beer. Like a fantastic milkshake.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at Blue Monk in Buffalo, NY. Nice deep dark pour. Heavy on the chocolate, very much so. Sweet but not killer. Didnít get a lot of the bourbon and oak, just a lot of nice chocolate. Would have again.

Bottle: The aroma consists of chocolate, caramel, vanilla, faint bourbon, and oak. It pours a dark brown with a faint orange highlights and a small beige head that fades to a minimal film outlined by a fine ring. The flavor starts with moderate milk chocolate and sweet caramel. The finish has roasted malt, vanilla, light black coffee, and light oak. I donít much actual bourbon. Itís light-medium bodied with mild carbonation.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 oz bottle into a tulip. From notes.
A: Pours a very dark red color; this is one of the lighter porters Iíve seen in a while The head is a one finger mocha shade, with decent retention. Not much lacing is left on the glass.
S: Itís quite oaky to start. More and more chocolate comes out when itís allowed to warm up. My big complaint about the aroma is how perfumey it seems - otherwise, itís not bad.
T: Better than the aroma. Oak hits the palate first before chocolate notes subtly appear around the midtaste. The first couple of sips are problematic - they seem to have far too much perfume, but after a few more sips, that note goes away to reveal a really nice, easy-going porter. A slight finish of brown sugar rounds the beer out.
M: This one feels pretty light, and dry to boot. While itís not highly carbonated, itís still really easy to drink at the end of the day.
O: A good porter that really grew on me the more I drank it. Worth its high price tag? Nah, not really. Worth sampling? Absolutely. If this cut out some of those perfume notes, then it would be out of this world.
