4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Moderate head. Aroma of sweet chocolate and vanilla. Thin-bodied. Low carbonation. Flavor of sweet milk chocolate and vanilla with little to no oak or bourbon. A bit one dimensional but that one dimension is pretty damn awesome. Just some great chocolate in this.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
650 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a small beige head that soon recedes to a fine film. The aroma is soft with mocha, chocolates and bourbon. The taste, like the aroma, features abundant mocha, with multi-layered vanilla and cocoa. Whiskey in the taste was very slight. The palate is full and unbelievably smooth with light carbonation. Finishes medium in duration and sweet. Overall: Decent porter--me likey.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours near black in color with a tan head. Notes of chocolate, vanilla and oak in aroma. Simple, but really nice, well simple is perhaps not the right word, but anyway really nice with all that chocolate and bit of espresso on the nose here all the time. Same in taste, lots of both chocolate and vanilla is present here as well. A bit on the sweeter side with some notes of dark fruityness coming through later on. A very chocolatey porter indeed with a oak and bit of spicy notes appearing in the end.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Aromas of dark milk chocolate, some cherry, subtle booze, subtle wood spice. Almost black in appearance with dark bronze highlights, and a mostly lasting dark tan head. Some malt sweetness, chocolatey, somewhat fruity. Full bodied, very smooth, dangerously drinkable.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: Served in a Chouffe glass:
Black beer (with a ruby tint come through). Medium sized beige light brown head.
Aroma has loads of chocolate, mocha and cacoa. Canít really detect something else... Maybe just tints of malts and herbs...
Flavours of bitters, dried leaves, toast, malt toast, some chocolate, mocha, light choco spice, some light wood, chalk and herbal choc...
Low carbo, creamy close to silky mouthfeel, more than just medium bodied and a creamy bitter light dry texture.
Nice stuff though the body might have been a bit bolder. Nevertheless, tasty!

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This is an oak aged beer, but no bourbon involved. SUPER cholatey, right away, and non-stop from start to finish. Like Rogue Choc Stout with itís intense bitter chocoaltey goodness, but on steroids. In small samples, this is pure bliss, though maybe juuuust a touch overkill on the bittersweet assualt if, say, drinking a pint or a bottle. And a bit on the expensive side, but hey, it was delicious."

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Caldera Mogli is a beer that should be a masterpiece, at least for me. Itís an imperial chocolate porter aged on bourbon-soaked oak spirals Ė thatís an impressive brew from the description alone. And while itís a plenty tasty and enjoyable beer, itís also a bit of a challenging beer because itís so intense in pretty much every aspect.
I poured a 22oz bottle into a tulip glass. There was no freshness date, but there was white wax on the cap. I received this bottle from a friend as a gift (thanks, Ben!).
Appearance: Deep dark brown/black color, no visible carbonation. Pours to a three-finger, tan, foamy head which retains but does not lace very well.
Smell: Cocoa nibs and roasted malt with distinct bourbon character.
Taste: Thereís a lot going on with this palette: dark chocolate, vanilla, bourbon and woody/earthy characters are all quite prominent. The chocolate is present right away, tasting akin to cocoa nibs Ė more on the bittersweet side than anything rich and silk like milk chocolate. Plenty of bitterness from the get-go as well. Deeply roasted malt creates for dryness towards the beginning, though itís quickly obscured by the intense bourbon flavor that appears at the apex of the swig and sticks around long after the swallow is complete. Thereís a slight tanginess or astringency on the backend, though this might be the actual alcohol as there is a rum-like character here as well. More bitterness on the finish with an aftertaste of burnt malt and dark chocolate. Delectable and enjoyable, but mostly itís just interesting. This beer probably didnít need the oak-aging as it distracts from the base brew, but itís still fun to drink anyway.
Drinkability: Though obviously not the biggest beer in the world at only 8.5% ABV, Caldera Mogli certainly drinks something youíd call ginormous. This is a robust, full-bodied beer with a strong presence in the mouth. Itís comfortable, and smooth going down, though the alcohol does impart minor warmth. A great dessert beer, especially when shared with friends rather than Bogarted.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Appearance: dark brown pour, caramel colored edges, short and creamy light tan head quickly fading, reinvigorated with the occasional swirl. Aroma: big nose of chocolate, vanilla, caramel, bourbon and/or rum. Taste: very sweet, with dark and milk chocolate, a hint of espresso, crŤme anglaise, sticky toffee pudding, and a boozy undertone. Finish: lingering chocolate sweetness grows stronger, as does a faint woody note to compliment the bourbon; palate was lighter than expected. Notes: A little more sweet and a little less roasty than I prefer in the style, and the palate could have used a tad more heft. That said, this was quite excellent.
